Marantz HDMI problems

I have a similar model (a step below I think) and have not had any issues, but here are a few ideas.

One: update you firmware. It's really easy as you just hook it up to a network cable and some kind of monitor and follow the steps. The latest has access to Netflix on demand and Pandora radio too, both of which work great assuming you can keep a network connection hooked up.

Two: You could try and set your receiver to "pass through" on the video setup section which kind of takes a number of theoretical problems off the table.

Lastly: In Setup menu make sure all your inputs are set to Auto in the HDMI setup menu. I couldn't get a Wii to work for a long time and it was a really stupidly simple change in the menu. The fact that some things work and one doesn't actually may point to this being the problem right away.

The other thing is to make sure your DVD player and receiver and playing nice as far as output resolution. So check your DVD player is working correctly as well.

Good luck. These receivers are also incredible for decoding lossless audio BTW.

Hi DaveC. I feel your pain (literally). I just sent in my SR7001 under warranty. It has been working flawlessly for 2 years until I toasted something. I hate it when that happens.

Don't take this personally, but did you assign all the inputs correctly in the set-up menu? The reason I ask is I have a Marantz DV-7001 Universal Player, a VC-6001 DVD changer and a Motorola DVR all connected to the SR-7001 via HDMI. The DV-7001 is also connected via analog for SACD and DVD-A. Everything switches perfectly to a Samsung LED thru the receiver.

I also don't understand how your warranty expired if you replaced the SR-7001 18 months ago. Or did I read that wrong?

I received a call from D&M Canada this morning and they are going to solve the problem for me. Evidently the person this was handed off to has been away.
Thanks for the input, I had already tried those solutions.

Thanks
Dave

The latest on the saga.

It has been 8 weeks since I sent my receiver (SR7002) and DVD player back to Marantz (D&M Canada). I phoned today and they are going to send the stuff back to me today, should arrive sometime next week, unfixed because "it works with there" . In the 3 years I have had the stuff I have been without the receiver for 23 weeks and the DVD player for 15 weeks. I must say that purchasing the Marantz was my biggest mistake in my 50 years in the hobby. The only time I hear anything is if I call and for the last 4 weeks the rep I have been talking to has been "going to speak to his bosses", today he tells me that they are away. He made the offer that when the new model comes out if I pay the difference I can upgrade to that one which has HDMI 1.4, I've already spent $2000 so what's another $400!

If the Marantz receiver had HDMI handshake problems with only my TV or only the projector I would figure it might be that piece of equipment, but it's both. What I find baffling is the everything works if I leave the receiver out of the mix. The satellite receiver, DVD player and WD Media player will all work with the TV. Put the receiver into the mix so I can have good sound and easy switching and nothing works properly. Especially the DVD which won't work at all. I even tried a different brand of DVD player and it still didn't work.

I guess you can tell that am not impressed!

Sad, sad story! Just to be sure: Have you tried with another receiver?

Is it possible their is something wrong in your electrical system that's interfering? Could be something not major, but is somehow not playing well with your receiver. I assume you tried different cables too right?

Final update!
Marantz could not solve my problem, but they are replacing my DVD player. Pioneer refused any help, they just replied to my emails that it wouldn't be the TV.
Then one day at the end of September I was ordering some cables from Monoprice and found the HDFury 2 in their catalog. So I figured "What the hell I've tried everything else" I ordered one. When it arrived I plugged it in and all of my problems instantly went away.

Picture from my cable company will not pass through my Marantz 7007. Last year an official service center said unit worked fine and for me to buy the most expensive HDMI cables I could find at Best Buy. I did and somehow I got it working again until now. My cable guy said my unit is at fault and bypassed the 7007 and run cable directly into TV. Very frustrating. Also the volume control is jerky. I read it is likely a dirty pot (riostat) control that needs to be cleaned or replaced. I feel stymied...can't get help.
