How much? for a yet nuther unit using old chip ckts...with it's RAZOR SHARP machining!!! Homie don't want no cuts from poorly finished products....how many THOUSANDS and teh edges are razor sharp, that comes from cheap stamped processes to make stuff, cheap stuff. Godo maching well finished has smooth finished edges, i bet this is just another grossly overpriced stamped consumer product hyped into the stratosphere. A friggin top loader, come on the world's first Philips unit i got was a top loader, I shoulda' kept it from over 20 years ago and sold it as aCLASSIC on E-Bay, now overpriced players revert back to the very user unfriendly top loading method, just a way to add useless features to a very overpriced product. Yeah, and that's without hearing it, I thought EMMLABS has teh best there is, and it's only $10K and it plays SACD/CD and does that artificly UPSAMPLING to 2X DSD rates, that means it has modern chips, and ckts, not something from teh 90's. Ever wonder why chips are stopped being made, or certain transistors like teh original Hitachi MOSFETS used in Hafler, whcih are no longer made (Hafler being teh FIRST to use MOSFETS in audio amps) now are replaced with BETTER, FASTER, CHEAPER Exicon. Chips are obsolete, now the new markeing scam is to use old designs and claim they really where better...BS. Even teh great Haflers are updated to 21st century SS devices and make them better than ever...and you know who does that. Naim, $28K Cd only player, top loading one disc player!!! What a deal....Come on And it don't even give you digital output....Oh, Their's don't need that, like any other player does. And once again, in the effort to push wire sales, the Tara vacuum, not really vacuum Zero, is what made all teh difference, how come Naim doesn't ship the CD player with that magic wire if it made such a difference, teh mfg doesn't know about teh magic of this wire? Ony a mag reviewer? Maybe not using a Shunyatatatatatatata AC cord could have made teh ZERO not needed or the use of a ZERO with a Shynyatatatatatam, switched to a JPS AC, back to a Non snake cable, with a Audiodharma Cable Cooker (set too hot maybe?) Oh no MF used the Oyaide AC wall jack what da' heck is dat? Why would he need a Shunyata RESEARCH? V-Ray Reference? Reference to what? What the heck is all this stuff anyway And 4 different LP cleaning machines? I thought this was a Cd player? And what, no Furutech DEMAGNETIZATION, then this review is bogus, is there no sanity, no DEMAG no peace

Re: Maim CD555

When I see the highly respected Mr. Dudley trade in his Naim or Sony unit for the new one I might buy into a $28K cd player. But, DUP is right, buy the EMM Labs unit and get over it.

I doubt that we will find Ayre C5-XE or DCS P8I owners jumping off the roof either.

Stereophile is great, entertaining I read it every month cover to cover. Some of the stuff is so absurd, I can't NOT read it. I've read subscribed to StereoPhile back when Gordon Holt was praising Dynaco PAT-4...then the updated PAT-5 biFET. Back then their was a lot of reality based stuff, he loved Audio Research stuff, at the same time also heard the genius of Dynaco and Hafler stuff, I think even checked out some AVA. AR TT's priced at $69 And they were musical and worked forever. I didn't get rid of my AR-XB for over 25 years.Current StereoPhile seems to ignore a lot of stuff that has a more realistic approach to great sound reproduction, priced for mortals, and delievering great sound. The extreme fringe of $100,000 TT's $45K CD only players are actually comical, and highly entertaining, how writers like MF just lay on the praise, make it seem like the sound is so much better than anything ever made before....when in reality, it's pure BS. I still say MF couldn't tell which CD/SACD player was playing between a good Philips EMMLABS, Onkyo, Marantz etc, priced in the few thousands,(or even a Philips for a few hundred!) versus his absurd Zander types, or whatever else in previous issues that had goofy shapes and extreme prices. Let alone knowing if his demagnetized LP was played on a sorta mortal priced VPI MKII or MKIV with a JMW arm or his RockPort or continum..and just a few years ago the TT they use in the Library of Congress was the ULTIMATE...man, he drops ultimates, at the drop of the next higher priced TT. Or some of teh absurd phono pre amp components going for tens of thousands of dollars, one ultimate replacing next months ultimate. Without JA doing reality based measurements and observations, MF and his type would be out of control!!!! Like they ain't now? Nothing like a battery powered phone stage for tens of thousands of dollars!!! How does the phone ckt know or care where it gets it DC supplies. Like power supplies haven't been perfected for low noise, etc...I'm sure someone will have audio grade BATTERIES too. around acolades each month like everything is the next breakthrough, it's ENTERTAINING....can't get enough of it
