Quote: Any comments on why they fell off the list.
The MG3.6/Rs were deleted from our Recommended Components list in April 2004, simply because too much time had passed since our last review to be able to give them a recommendation. This doesn't mean that they're no longer a worthy speaker; it just means that we can't be sure of a rating.
I understand you say it is because you don't know if there is a reason to keep the rating - but yuou also do not know if there is not. For those in the used market maybe it would be nice to see a compilation - by type of equipment and brand of everything ever rated. Also - it would be nice to see something from each catagory rated Class A or B today compared to something from 10 and 20 years ago (or maybe earlier). It would interesting to see where those componenets would rate now and to see how far they have or have not come.
I'm curious, Last time I was speaker shopping , the Magnepan 3.6Rs were on the Stereophile Recommended Components A-Restricted Extreme LF list (Oct 2003 - with a $$$ and a star, no less). I've thumbed back thru more recent lists, and they seem to have fallen off.
Any comments on why they fell off the list. For my ear, its a tough choice between them and the Quad 988s.
Thanks!
I'm not sayin payola alone gets or keeps you on the list. Probably requires decent quality WITH payola. Decline to continue payola-->off the list.

And what would Sunday be without an anonymous ass-clown deciding to take a dump in our forum. Stephen Mejias explained to the original poster why the Magnepan 3.6R was dropped from "Recommended Components." That you didn't comprehend that explanation is pathetic.

About systems being dropped.
