Well, I hope CD is around for a good long while, as it is such a convenient format. But I have to say that I enjoy my LPs so much more than I do CD. I've got a crappy CD player, so that may account for part of the difference.
Hi Gents,
Interesting the comments on the CD quality, which I concur. But recently I completely bypassed the analog gainstage(s) in my old Rotel 865bx and added another set of jacks, so I can compare. It is definitely sounding much much better. In fact darn good. Really minimized or completely eliminated the glassy sound cymbals seem to have.
I wonder if others have been experimenting with this technique? (The Rotel has blackgates, standard, which also helps.)
Take care.
Steve
IF the industry chooses to do so they can develop the digital medium to the point that this whole discussion becomes moot. But the folks who develop standards, and technology are going to have to gain a bit more respect for the consumer and artist, (don't hold your breath), and give up a bit of self centeredness. If they cannot see considerable profit it just won't happen. Existing analog, and digital technology will fill the gap for me in the meantime. I suspect that the "death of high end two channel" is paranoia and hype.
