I love A/B listening: “sport listening.”
Another room exhibiting an EverSolo product was that of IsoAcoustics, which used a DMP-A8 streamer/DAP/DAC/preamplifier ($2700) to feed a pair of 350W PS Audio Stellar M700 monoblocks ($4500/each) and Aspen FR10 speakers ($13,999/pair)—two pairs—actually, one on regular spikes, the other on IsoAcoustics Gaia 2 isolation feet ($349.99/pack of 4)—to allow for an A/B demonstration.
Rounding out the system were a PowerPlant 15 AC regenerator ($10,699) and cabling by Kimber Kable.
On a track by Pink Floyd, the sound with the Aspens on their stock spikes sounded good—sweet, well-sorted, with rich tone, and a good bass foundation, but there was no doubt in my mind as the speakers switched back and forth that the Gaia-equipped pair sounded consistently better, offering an overall more open and refined presentation, with added air, space, definition, and high-end extension.
I used to be a little concerned that Gaia footers, which are taller than regular spikes, might skew the tweeter's response relative to its position with the listener's ears, but that hasn't been the case. The increased speaker height is obviously part of the Gaia’s design. The Gaia 2s don't just raise the speakers, but the bar on performance.
