Why, I wonder, would a presumed adult favor the policy you suggest when he is free to exercise the alternative to ignore anything which is transferred to the "dead zone"? Why would anyone suppose that the "dead zone" had some particular attractiveness to those who frequent this forum? What sort of people do you think we are, Mr. Serinus? If you're drawn to the gutter, so be it, but it's a bit presumptuous, don't you think, for you to assume that any of the rest of us go there.

I understand Jason's point; leaving the posts where they were would allow them to get lost in the sea of text that we're drowning in. But, curiosity is often a compelling beast. I admit that I looked to see what was deemed so inappropriate to end up in that section. The better thing would be if we all showed some restraint to begin with and refrained from hurling nastiness.

I'm just old fashioned, Jeff, and I do all I can to preserve individual liberty. Big Brother doesn't have to look out for me. Furthermore, this is, in my opinion, a pretty civil group and the option to ignore specific posters suits my need (and I think anyone's) to avoid nastiness.

Please move this post to a more appropriate venue, such as the comments section of Mr Mejias's Blog

seriously I laughed right out loud.

and how dare JVS assail the character of the forum members.
I believe i can speak for all of them when i say the dead zone was the smartest idea anyone ever had, revolutionized not just the internet, but audio as well!

I thought it was a forum for Jerry Garcia fans when I first saw it.

I'm all for freedom of speech and all that, but the observance of reasonable manners as a guest at someone else's party should not only be encouraged, it should be required as a condition of continual attendance.

All in all, this sort of thing hasn't been nearly the problem here that I've seen at most all other interactive sites.

The idea of The Dead Zone came to life somewhere around here. I thought it was a good idea then, and I still think it's a good idea. That whole thread, actually - "Why Must We Fight?" - is a great thread, one worth reading again.

The best idea, of course, is what Jeff said: To show some restraint to begin with and refrain from hurling nastiness.

I think it's a sad and horrible thing that a person would find pleasure in insulting another person. I think it's sad and horrible that a person would make any sort of attempt at all of hurting another person's feelings. Why do that?

If there's a point to be made, I do believe that it can be made respectfully, intelligently, and kindly. I don't like the way the Forum has felt lately. It's been bringing me down. I say this, however, knowing that I can often be overly sensitive, and maybe even too open with my feelings (JA might be cringing now as he reads this), but I hope that my saying this will help to bring the Forum back to kinder times.

Share some kindness with one another. Exchange ideas, make jokes, argue if you want to argue - but I hope that you'll do so with patience, understanding, and respect for one another. I don't think that's too much to ask. I do agree, also, with Monty; This Forum, compared to other similar places on the internet, is a great place to be. It tends to correct itself, and I'm sure the Forum will continue to correct itself. Let's bring it back to being a great place to be, without qualification.

PS
I still hate spam.

Consider, if you will, Stephen, that we tend to find what we're looking for.

I find this behavior all the time on this forum, and I come here pretty often. Perhaps if you read through some of the recent stuff again, you'll find it too. Set aside, for a moment, the Pandora's box that Scooter unwittingly opened when he reasonably questioned the popularity of hi-fi "cons" and read some of the other stuff.

It's not surprizing that those who visit the forum don't all fit the Alan Alda mold - and a good thing too. Personalities aside, this place has more than its share of knowlegeable, clever, and gentlemanly inhabitants and your handling of the dead zone censorship function is working very well.

Cheer up, my friend.
