The best speakers you can buy for under $2000 are IMO, the PSB Image T6 speakers. They are around $1400 per pair.
Both Stereophile and The Absolute Sound have tested them and rated them the best in their price range.
I had them for two years and they were very good in every respect. I only sold them when I moved on to the Vandersteen Treo speakers ($6000).
They have good sensitivity and your amplifier should be adequate for them for all but the very highest volumes, which you apparently won't be doing.
