Help with modest upgrade to modest system

Thanks in advance! I recently noticed when playing a particular tune at home, I thought there was a 12-string guitar in the background. Played through a car stereo, it was very clearly a guitar and a mandolin playing in octaves. So my objective is to replace my home satellite speakers with more clear speakers.

I listen in a living room/kitchen open layout about 400sf (19x21). Furniture, no rugs. I listen to almost all genres of music, classical to chamber to funk to Latin. No TV, movies, etc. Music mostly streamed or ripped onto an iPhone. Not loud.

The speakers must be wall-mounted (small apartment), about 7 feet off the ground.

My current set-up is an Onkyo TX-NR509 Receiver, Polk DSWPro440 subwoofer, and two c. 2000 Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III satellites.

Current contender is a pair of SVS Prime satellites. Thoughts and suggestion most welcome. Thanks much.

Not sure what your budget is,

Not sure what your budget is, but I would just be wary of placing ported speakers right up against the wall. If you do, there's a good chance you'll get an unwanted boomy effect. Some ported speakers like Q Acoustics and Polk have started to incorporate a type of baffle on the back to disperse the bass better, but if you're putting them flat against the wall I'd personally be looking at sealed speakers. On the other hand, lots of folks just stick a sock in the port - not optimal but helps :)

Didn't think of that...

My budget is around $400 for a pair. The SVS Prime are indeed rear ported. I'd have them on mounts maybe 3 - 4 inches from the wall.

I would think you're in the clear with at least some space. Heard good things about Triangle speakers, too. Their Borea BR03 is front ported.
