Have you ever received great customer service from an audio company? Who was it?

In response to last week's question about name brands, many of you mentioned customer service as very important. Do you have an example of outstanding customer service from an audio company?

Many years ago I had a top of the line Pioneer cassette deck which after about a year of heavy use began to exibit transport problems. The unit was by this time out of warranty of course. I very hesitantly shipped the unit back to the Pioneer service station in NJ and was most pleasantly surprised to have the fully repaired unit arrive at my doorstep only a week later. I was to enjoy many years of trouble free operation after that repair and the best part was that the Pioneer folks charged me a most nominal fee as compared to what local shops wanted to just look at the unit. I view the Pioneer repair team as being responsive and very customer oriented.

I would not only like to take time to praise one company (Classe), but one specific employee. For several years I have owned Classe's DAC-1 and their matching CDT-1 Transport. The capacitors dried up in the DAC-1 probably due to lack of continual use, well after the warranty period, which meant power supply work. Classe asked me to send not only the DAC-1 but forward the CDT-1 Transport "just so they could check it, lubricate it and calibrate it", WOW! NO CHARGE FOR ANYTHING, as professional as a company could possibly be, and how about this, I received both pieces back with no scratches, fingerprings, nothing, perfect, just as they were when I sent them. The employee, who I have never met the likes of is Robert Adam. Robert has become so sought after, the receptionist has been instructed to shield him from service related calls, as he has now been promoted with Classe. In my many years of exposure to many manufacturers, and their employees, I have never, and probably will never find anyone as genuinely interested in me as a customer of Classe Audio, Robert Adam should be the President of the company!

After having my Audio Research VT200 amplifier only a couple of months, a tube arced, blew a resistor, and took out a trace on one of the boards. The dealer consulted with Audio Research, made the repair himself with parts sent by the factory, and assured me that if I were dissatisfied with the sound that we could send the unit back to Audio Research for factory replacement of the board for that channel. Before the amplifier reached the end of the warrantee period, it became obvious that the tubes were wearing quicker on the repaired side, and that the two channels were beginning to sound more and more different as time went by. Audio Research did not replace the board, but re-did the repair on the board at the factory, and made a few safety modifications that had been instituted to the model after my amplifier was built. The two channels still did not sound quite the same, however, and I complained. The amplifier was sent back and Audio Research re-built it into a Mk. II model for which they did not charge me. I believe that the dealer, Audio Dimensions, of Royal Oak, Michigan, was instrumental in my getting such consideration from Audio Research.

Audio Alchemy before they went under...they had no qualms taking care of a cable of theirs that went bad for no charge. Though it was still under warranty. Theta Digital also provided me a manual for a DAC of theirs I bought used just for asking and thier emails have been prompt and courteous. Polk Audio is super too whenever you need anything from them! I've had to replace several drivers over the years due to my fault of overdriving them but they offer some of the best customer support I've ever seen from anyone!
