We are all spread over thinly amongst the other Audiophile forums.

System threads don't always get a lot of responses. Maybe it's the nature of the magazine and who it attracts

Hi David

If your looking for practical application this is not the forum to get it. You will want to visit other audiophile forums that get more in depth in the "doing" side of things. Personal system threads here fall flat or get trolled to a slow painful death unfortunately. Same as all more advanced hobby threads here.

Being here for a while now, I have found that this is more of a stop by and say hi, or quick flash in the pan type of place and not so much a digging into your sound type of forum. Our forum for comparison sake http://tuneland.techno-zone.net/ is much more into the sound and how to get there "per system". This (stereophile) forum is more of a "for beginners" - "plug & play" forum, that seems to focus on the new equipment reviewing & selling of that equipment. Much more of a selling the Stereophile's recommended components list type of place. I would call it a trade show forum and not a private involvement experience community.

I and most other members here who get into the serious listening part of the hobby move to the more specialized forums. Took me a while to get that and after trying to kick start (along with others) more advanced listening practices here it's pretty clear Stereophile has a ceiling and once hit hasn't the ability or will to go beyond. Maybe that's a negative or a positive, but it is certainly a truth.

It's been interesting to watch that ceiling get hit time after time, and I myself have pushed for that higher level, but it's just not here to be had. At least has not happened yet. Whether this is by design or has morphed, it's the current feel. To describe that feel from mine & others impressions it's a mix of nursing home, newbie compulsive buyer, want-a-be, trolling and once in a while a serious guy type of vibe. Again that might be a good thing for some who fit those camps, but the thing I notice more than anything is the stuck in the mud cloud that hovers here.

It's after all a trade magazine forum, not a listeners forum necessarily.

Stereophile is Stereophile and I guess trying to make it more depends on the posters and their passions. From what I have seen this is more of a followers forum as opposed to leaders.

why aren't there more normal audiophiles on this forum?
you know, people posting about the sound of their system?
amps and CD players and turntables and speakers?
Is there a rule here limiting the maximum I.Q. of members?

1. Isn't "normal audiophile" an oxymoron?

2. I don't know of any IQ limit, one way or the other, so you are safe.

I see the thread's original question has been answered.
