Hi guys. I want to use my laptop to listen to music but want to avoid using the 1/8" jack. I'm thinking I could buy this inexpensive HDMI splitter to isolate the audio from the HDMI port on my laptop to connect to the optical input on my Yamaha A-S501, which has a built-in DAC.

Another option would be to simply buy an external DAC, but this is more expensive. What do you think? Is the Yamaha's DAC as good as a ~$100 DAC?
