Dolby Atmos to amp to Dolby atmos

I have a new Sony Android TV with Sound of Dolby ATMOS out via digital/optical.

/B I NEED TO BUY A Integrated Amp/or/Receiver. /Br

That output is to be directed to Klipsch 8060 ATMOS speakers.

Till now I have felt that if the source was optical out,,,, going to an amp/preamp/receiver (non-ATMOS),,,, Going to the Klipsch ATMOS speakers. And that would work

I only plan on using surround 2.1 so buying a seven channel receiver sounds totally overkill.

Yesterday a Audio store told me I would need an ATMOS integrated amp/receiver to maintain the ATMOS chain.

I think that last claim is BOGUS, but hey this is my first foray into employing ATMOS, so what do I know.

Please point me in the right direction --- Thanks

Since the ATMOS audio is

Since the ATMOS audio is encoded, you will need something to decode it and that, implicitly, means ATMOS-capable electronics.
It also means that you cannot use an optical connection which has inadequate bandwidth for ATMOS but must use HDMI.

That said, why are you bothering with ATMOS when you are planning to use only 2 speakers?

atmos (2 reasons)

The speakers have front and top locations for speakers. The top speakers operate to bounce the sound off the ceiling to deliver the overhead Dolby Atmos® experience in addition to stereo sound towards the listener.,, thats for me,, at some point I will pass along these components to one of my sons and they have the flexibility to add speakers

I understand what they are

I understand what they are and how they work. I am just wondering if you will have any use for it.

bottom line

I have indicated that I need to go with an Atmos AV Receiver. Then I am positioned to add to the speaker count in the future. Thanks for that.
