Mainly to make up for my 62 year old ears! Why don't you recognise ears as a valid use?

I sometimes use the ReQ feature for DPLII; however digital music I prefer to be the same as the source.

Yes, More or Less!

Don't have any on my pre-amp at home, but I play with them a lot in the car.

I listen to CDs mostly with the tone controls out of the circuit. However, when I listen to the FM radio, I have to put in a little bit of bass to make the sound listenable. My Magnum Dynalab FT101A is good, but even it has to be tamed down a bit, so as not to get listener fatigue while listening to a classical radio station. I wish I didn't have to use the bass or tone controls on the tuner, but it is absolutely imperative that I do.

I wouldn't use 'em if I had 'em.

I have a vintage Yamaha CA-800 amp running a Music Hall mmfCD-25 CD Player and a set of APL speakers and some times i adjust the tone so i don't rattle my dorm apart with bass

Answer: Yes to all first four questions.

I set bass and forget it.

I also don't have any on my preamp.

Actually, the first four choices. It's dumb to change cables, apeakers, amps, and so on when you can do the same with tone controls!

The bass, treble eq is the most important control.

I adjust subwoofer gain though to correct for placement, but once it's set don't dare touch it!

I used to have a preamp w/ tone controls and even an equalizer. After upgrading my power-amp, my speakers and my sources, they became useless. My current pream has no tone controls whatsoever. I don't believe that EQ can make up for room deficiences or recording deficiences. My music always sounds better if its left pure.

I use a graphic equalizer to enhance the listening experience, to pick up the bass and the treble, especially at lower volumes, a la Fletcher Munson loudness compensation.

These are controls that you do not need if you have a hi-end system that is setup properly.

It has been allready mastered right? :-))

Uhhhhhh? What's a Bass Control?.. . . .er, and a Treble control? Haven't seen any in my home for years. . .and don't need 'em either:-)

I wouldn't buy a preamp that has tone controls because I am obsessive about short signal paths and minimalist design. I suppose that's a prejudice.

Though tempted to have tone controls, but my system doesn't have one. In case it does maybe a slightly turned knobs is unavoidable.

I'm sure that if I had some, I'd have a weak moment and play with them. Hell, I might even like it! Years ago, before playing with them was a sin, I recall that I was rather fond of them.

I don't even use the tone controls on my boom box.

Purist prefer the original and that what we called music!!

When you have Audio Research, tone contols are not an option, and are not welcome either.

Of the three systems in my home, only one has tone controls - on a NAD C370 that I recently purchased to use in my home office system. Fortunately, it also has a defeat switch to take the tone controls out of the signal path. The other systems (living room and rec room) don't have any.

Nope, since we got our class "c" electronics and class "b" loudspeakers we don't need them anymore, thanks for your help.

However, I use the multiwave settings on my PS Audio P300 Power Plant as "tone controls" especially for CD playback to "tune" the sound.

I only use the ones in my truck.

Many years ago a Soundcrafstmen 20-12 equalizier improved the sound of my system in my listening room.

they usually suck so I never touch them.
