Disappointed in new equipment

To replace my wife's all in one "victrola" set up I bought Bose 161 speakers (used) a new Sony STR-DH190 receiver and a new Audio-Technica AT-LP60X turntable. It sounds no better than the "victrola" its replacing. Can anyone suggest which of these three are likely causing the setup to sound so thin and with no bass?

The obvious culprits are the Bose speakers which contain "(2) 2.5" (6.3 cm) wide-range drivers per speaker." Those 2 tiny drivers cannot produce any significant bass.

That was the first record player I bought in "new" condition. It is not good. I am not saying that it is the cause of your disappointment- Maestro Rubinson already weighted in, and his opinion is infallible. But once you had your speakers changed, look at a sinple but reliable record player- Rega RP1 or a basic ProJect. AudioTechnica doesn't perform well until it gets very pricy....

I would agree with Kal, the Bose speakers would be the weak link. If you like the sound except for the bass, you could try adding a small subwoofer, something like a Polk PSW108. Decent bass and relatively inexpensive.

While that is possible, I wonder if it will be satisfactory since it introduces the complexity of integrating the sub with the already inadequate Bose.
