The Audioengine2 piece was an eye-opener. Not necessarily because of the glowing review, but because of the reports of reactions of the "unsuspecting" listeners.
I've long believed that the biggest challenge to getting the masses interested in good sound --- on any level --- is to get them to hear it in the first place, and in an unthreatening environment. (RJR's "nonsocial" behavior notwithstanding )
Agreed.
I still like the idea of high end shops providing an iPod dock visible from the front window.
Let the unsuspecting iPodians enter and play their music for as long as they would like at their chosen volume level.
I bet many would leave wanting a better system.
And then hit them with a sticker shock! Bzzzzz
They seemed to handle the price of the iPhone OK - even stood in line for it. This is a group that appears to be willing to pay if they believe there is greater utility to be had.
Nah, that was just a buzz. After a week or so, the iphones were no longer THE in thing, so everyone pretty much calmed down and Apple dropped the price by a third.
