Hi geoff

I wouldn't take it personal. These types of isolation devices have been around since the mid "50's". At that time they were called suspension kits or Earth coupling devices. Many of the early turntable companies were involved in trying to get their tables to work with floors of different construction. There was a lot of buzz among the early audiophiles of the 50's and 60's when the battle between reel 2 reel and turntables was in full swing. At that time the R2R guys were the elite of listeners, partialy because a lot of the tape machines could be mounted. To compete TT companies explored about every type of suspension you could think of. Vinyl was the poorman's audiophile source, but what an interesting flip as fashion took over. Don't know if you knew this but the vinyl craze actually caught on because of the cover art and cheap production and not the sound. It took a big marketing fad to put vinyl back in the driver seat, but when cool looking TT's hit with the slimline LP it was lights out for most R2R's until the cassette tape was able to swing things back the other way.

The history of the early tables is a very interesting story. At TuneVilla I had a fair collection that went from crank-up to the latest at the time. The table suspension story is a classic and I think changed or maybe gave birth to the high end side of the hobby. Table companies, collectors and reviewers hopefully will always be around.

Earth coupling devices? That's so funny I almost blew coffee out of my nose. Actually the CLEARAUDIO device like my Nimbus device are the OPPOSITE of Earth Couoling, they are Earth isolation devices. And the approach I pointed out employed by the CLEARAUDIO Device - the barbell weight ps stacked at the bottom are for reasons a of lateral support for the springs used in the device. There are springs aren't there? For my own Nimbus that was modified to isolate a very heavy Maplenoll turntable with 50 lb platter I employed 150 lb of ballast, also barbell weights, since barbell weight are inherently heavy also symmetrical around the vertical axis. I realize you are actually not up on turntable suspensions of the type I'm referring to but that's Okay. Think of it like magnetic levitation. The suspension kits you are referring to are not for isolation, or if they are they are rather crude and ineffective. That's why my Nimbus univipot with sub Hertz performance was WAAAY ahead of it's time. And that's why Pierre at Mapleshade picked me up to isolate his super duper Nakamichi Dragon CD player system at CES way back when.

As you read through this thread you can see geoff troll his own posting.

See my post above? I wrote about what the turntable companies have done as historical fact. You can look any of this up for yourself as it is fascinating. There was no downing geoff's efforts but simply talking about what companies like AR researched and designed along with some great TT designers. Heck these guys did this innovation before I was even born.

Enters geoff with nothing but attacks and contempt for the very people who started the audiophile movement.

may belt on another thread asks why I think this is less than appropiate?

Well guys it's like this, instead of building up our hobby you spend all your time undermining it. This is what internet trolls do.

I invite those of you who wish to join a forum that has no internet trolling to come over to TuneLand and join in the fun of listening.

hope all are ready for their Christmas!

Ignorance is bliss.

It's not easy admitting you're wrong. Old audiophile axiom.

Earth coupling. Keep the laughs coming.

Have a nice hair day,
