Challenges and Rewards

Sheriff Truman: Jelly donuts?
Dale Cooper: Harry, that goes without saying.

The beast is now in the careful, capable hands of our copy editor, Richard Lehnert. I sent it to him last night, only six days after I began creating this latest collection of “Recommended Components” blurbs—the last six months of equipment reports, follow-ups, and column coverage distilled into 150-word gems. Six months squished into six days: less time than it took to create the universe.

It seems that with every April and October that comes our way, we’re forced to complete the task in less time, under greater stress and stranger circumstances. I used to plan for at least two full working days to complete a single issue’s worth of entries.

When I was about half-way through covering our March issue’s components, close enough to completing the task that I felt simultaneously invigorated and completely drained, I received an e-mail from AudioStream.com’s Michael Lavorgna, asking whether I’d be interested in contributing to a new feature called “Pick 6.”

I would simply have to list six favorite recordings that are currently available as downloads in CD quality or better.

HYFR, I’d like to participate. I saw it as the first reward for completing my part of “Recommended Components.” You can find my Pick 6 right here.

The second reward was a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich for breakfast this morning.
