Acoustique Quality

Based in the Czech Republic, Acoustique Quality is a highly sophisticated loudspeaker design and manufacturing facility that uses the latest technologies, including 3D modeling, five-axis machining, high-precision cutter saws, etc. The top of their line is the AQ Passion ($20,000/pair), a very substantial floorstander. What I found surprising was the fact that they have two stand-mounted speakers at the same price: Designer Vladimir Sapara is shown in the photo with the Passion Teen (left, $6000/pair) and the Orca (right, $6000/pair). Asked to explain the reason for having these identically priced but very different-looking speakers, Sapara said the Orca is a more lifestyle-oriented speaker, with a more "aggressive" sound, the Passion Teen being the more audiophile-oriented model. I didn't have a chance to hear a comparison between the two speakers, but I listened to the Orca, and I thought it sounded quite nice, and not all that aggressive.

A lifestyle-oriented speaker... LOL

Lifestyle speakers are the biggest market. SONOS sells around 600,000 lifestyle speakers a month - more than the entirety of the audiophile world does in an entire year. Lifestyle products - those geared at sounding great, easy to use/place, and look great in homes - are a huge market.
