Looks like a neat little device.
I don't understand the reference to MIDI however. Typo?
On the Mac, the "Audio MIDI Setup" is where you control the audio output devices.
I had to go there to select the DACPort as the output device.
I believe it should read 'Audio/MIDI setup'. Apple seems to have lost the slash somewhere along the way.
Got it. I have spent very little time with Macs.
Fascinating! Especially since the conventional wisdom is that the SQ of a DAC is significantly dictated by its analog output stage which in a compact bus-powered device like this would necessarily be quite compromised. Generally I would expect bus-powered devices to struggle driving relatively insensitive cans like the AKG 701s, and for things like dynamics to suffer.
Please could you give us more detail on how you find the sound compared to the Benchmark?
I know. I did not really expect it to be as good as it is.
The Benchmark sounds a little more "in your face" and analytical to me. The best analogy I have is when you listen to a good Class A amp verses a good class A/B amp.
The music seems to flow better through it, in my opinion.
