CD Transport

New to hifi so I decided to start small with Cambridge audio AXA35 amp with matching AXC35 cd player and Elac Debut 2.0 6.2 bookshelf speakers also using my pc through a Schiit Modi 3+ DAC.. Well the CD player was never sent and they say not till may so I exchanged it for the Cambridge audio CXC V2 cd transport.. My question is How do you think it will sound through the Schiit Modi 3+.. I am not sure if I should cancel the order till I can upgrade the amp or the DAC or do you think it will sound ok as is... Thanks for the suggestions in advance..

CD Transport

Full disclosure: I've not auditioned the Cambridge Audio CXC or the newer version CXCv2 but have done a fair amount of reading & research on it and the Audiolab 6000CDT, its main competitor. Both are, reportedly, very good transports. As such, I expect either one of them would be limited, sonically speaking, only by the DAC employed and, of course, the business end of any sound system, the speakers. I think you have made a wise choice, especially with regard to future DAC upgrade possibilities.

I bought the Cambridge Audio

I bought the Cambridge Audio CXCv2, just last week, from Audio Advisors, seems well built and gets decent review in the English mags. So far I’ve got about 50 hours on it, using either a PS Audio Ultralink and a Benchmark DAC1 (their HQ is about 10-12miles from the house), for DACs, so far I’m very pleased.

FIFTY HOURS!

Fifty hours in one week! WOW! I'm impressed! You must be pleased! CONGRATS, Jack!

Just out of curiosity, did you find your CXCv2 needed or benefitted from some burn-in time or was it dead quite right out of the box? I've been using a Marantz CD6005 with RCA analog hook-up for a number of years, now. Relatively recently, I switched it to its EX Audio 2 Mode which was, indeed, a subtle but definitely noticeable sonic improvement. As soon as I receive a digital coaxial cable I ordered from Audio Advisor, I'm going to convert it to a transport by hooking it up to my McIntosh integrated's built-in DAC to hear what happens. Not sure if or how much of an improvement this might be because the DAC in the Marantz is pretty darn good, as far as I can tell, but hearing is believing.

The good folks at Audio Advisor are great people to deal with! They've never failed to put a smile on this audiophile's face! Congrats, again, and keep spinning and enjoying your tunes!
