cartridge alignment

I recently put an Ortofon 2M Black on my AT-LP140XP . I used a generic overhang dimension on initial setup and a mirrored protractor for alignment with an azimuth gauge . In short , I got lucky and there was a definite improvement in sound quality . Believing it could sound better I ordered the actual protractor for this turntable . Turns out my overhang was about an 1/8" too long , so after adjusting and realigning everything it was time to listen . I could not believe the improvement in dynamics , imaging , and decrease in tracking noise . Here's the problem . Albums that used to play flawlessly now skip . I tried adjusting anti-skate with no results . If I raise the tone arm the skipping stops but the sound gets muddy ..... any ideas ? I did try increasing tracking force slightly with no improvement
