Sorry - what does Cart mean ?
Doesn't the HK have its own built in phono stage? I would be trying that input for your TT first. If you intend to use the Bellari it must go into one of the other "line in" jacks. If you are using the Bellari properly then the tubes could be defective and be the culprit.
Check your stylus for damage and make sure your tonearm is set properly with the right tracking weight for the cartridge. Further into about the cartridge make and model may help others help you out.
Bad cartridge?
I fully approve of Jim's suggestions...

Give us more updates and we can see if there is anything else to add.
Also, what town are you in? Someone may know a local audio source for help, as well!
hanks,
The cartridge is a Sumiko Pearl; I've previously played with the weight and azimuth and have gotten better results but still not great. I'll be trying to do more here and see what I can get out of it.
Yes the HK has a phono stage but gives similar results. I guess I should also explain the room as a 15x20 with hard wood floors which may be giving a reverb on the lows
thanks
I am guessing that the phono cart pin connections to the head shell have been double-checked for correct color coding. The results with lps should not be that far off from your other sources.
Do you have access to any test lps with phasing tracks on them? That might be a huge help.
If you live in the US I have no problem loaning you one of my Shure test records. Advise.
thanks folks ! I am getting some good progress by taking out the stand alone preamp and messin with the cart a bit more. Still thinking my room acoustics could be playing a part too. Maybe the preamp tube is off kilter ???
I'm in Santa Cruz and know of a good shop - I'm just afraid to go since I know I'll end up spending $$$
Dude!
You are not far from The Analog Room in San Jose!
You could pop in and they could do a quick once over on your table and cartridge!
I LOVE those guys!

Keep us posted, whichever way you proceed.
Does the issue just occur when using the turntable as the source or do other sources exhibit the same problem?
I like it !
Also a place that could cost me big $$
I'll def check them out
