This will no doubt be debated but i dont think you need a special CD.

Just pick a good wide range CD and leave it on repeat for a couple of days

Welsh is pretty much right, although I prefer a full-range Brown noise track- it's easier to have on in the background at a low level and does a more thorough job. I like the CD entitled "Irrational, but Efficacious!" It has some handy spectrum degauss tracks as well and other test tones. It's great for speaker break-in especially, but I use it on any new component (other than TT related )

Burn in is more controversial. Some would argue you are simply taking away from the life of the cdp by "burning " it in.

Others believe in burn in but like to hear the process so they let it happen naturally from listening.

Yeah- that's true too. I don't get crazy with it, and with speakers it's much more pronounced an effect. I still think it seems to help a bit with equipment. Cartridges for sure need some break in, but that has to be by normal usage anyway.

Naturally, I recommend "Caca-Cophony," the Burn-In track on Stereophile's Test CD 3: see www.stereophile.com/features/424/index7.html (scroll down the page until you come to the details for track 20).

While ostensibly a bit of fun -- look at the photograph -- this track, played at moderate levels, will exercise the spiders and other suspension components of new speaker woofers as it has a high-level subsonic sweep.

again, I dont know if they work or not, but I have the ISOTEK "enhancer cd as well as the AYRE "Irrational but effacious" cd, and use them pretty regularly.
