Bold Burmester

The well-known German company, Burmester, has introduced the Burmester Ambience BA 31 loudspeaker ($25,000/pair). Derived from its larger BA 71 sibling, this 2½-way system includes an AMT Mundorf tweeter in front, and an identical "continuously adjustable" one in back to maximize omnidirectional effects. The cabinet front is made of solid, decoupled aluminum in three hues, while cabinet sides are available in a variety of veneers or lacquers. Sensitivity is 87dB/2.83V/m, and frequency response is specified as 38Hz–45kHz, ±3dB.

Paired with other Burmester components, it delivered very solid, brash sound that struck me as far more as an industrial-strength wallop than expressive or refined.

Just love their gear, that rack alone is oh so beautiful (also heavy). Apparently even their first CD players can still be serviced, they keep parts in abundance for their older products. That is customer service, but it does cost.
