I think most folks here will recommend the Wharfedales over over the Polks, and I'm sure rightfully so... That said, I have a pair of Polk RTiA1s and they are wonderful. From my understanding the A3s have larger woofers, so you'll most likely get deeper bass with those. To my ears, the RTiA1s are clear and natural sounding.

There are reviews of the A1s and A3s here on Stereophile.

I strongly recommend that you spend the money on the Wharfedales, because you will be likely to keep them longer; a better investment in the long run.

I don't know your euro price, but the NAD C316BEE is the amp I would shoot for. It is one of the less expensive good amps.

The Cambridge Audio 351A is another one to consider.

Thank you for your opinions. I'll go with the Diamonds, but I'll wait for some more amp suggestions.

I don't think you will get a real good amplifier for much less than the NAD C316BEE.

If your budget is real tight and you can't spring for it, however, you might want to take a look at the Sony STR-DH130, which is a stereo receiver that sells in the USA for around $130. It is not the best in the world, but good value for the price. The Amazon.de (Germany) website shows it for 169 Euros.

don't buy the Wharfdales until you've heard the ELAC Debut B6 speakers. You'll be making a big mistake.
Read the reviews online.

Since I don't have a shop that sells the ELACs anywhere near me, could you tell me how they compare to the Diamonds?

I didn't have a store which had them either. After reading the reviews, I ordered them online from MusicDirect. I had heard the Wharfdales so I knew what they sounded like. The ELAC B6 blows them away.

Based on everything I have seen, in the UK both NAD and Music Hall are a bit tougher to find. Both make excellent integrated amps but it is like trying to find and listen to Musical Fidelity at a dealer in the US. Lots of people sell the brand but virtually no one displays it.

For something that is easier to find and you will have a good chance to listen to it before you buy it, I would look at the Marantz PM6005. It is the class award winner at WhatHiFi currently and it seems that whatever Marantz has as the PM600x model, it always gets five stars.

I own several Marantz amps and generally find they sound really good and quite natural. I have the Marantz CR-510 network receiver which has been describes as sounding exactly the same and I am extremely pleased with it.

Music Hall is a UK company...duhhh.

They are based there and certainly sell their products there.

NAD has many dealers all over the world, and there are many UK dealers that handle their products.

Umm...Music Hall - according to Music Hall is an American Company and they are headquartered in Great Neck, Long Island They happen to be the importer for UK based Creek/Epos. Look at the Music Hall website where they state clearly their products are designed in the US and made outside of the country.

I didn't say you can't buy Music Hall or NAD products in the UK, I compared it to Musical Fidelity in the US where there are plenty of dealers but not many that display the products for you to be able to listen to before you buy them. It's not that you can't buy them, but there are surprisingly few displaying dealers.

Well, OK. They were British to start with, and the main guy is a Brit, but I guess they have moved their headquarters to the USA now.

You can certainly buy Cambridge Audio and NAD amps in Britain.

As far as I know there aren't any music shops around me that sell any of the above mentioned equipment, so I'll rely on your recommendations. There also aren't many online stores that ship to my county(Slovenia) for free. So I intend to order the equipment to a friend who is currently studying in Germany, and he'll bring it to me when he comes for a visit(approx. 1 month).

If I intend to use my PC as a source, how much would a DAC improve sound quality. I currently don't have any sound card other than the integrated motherboard one.
