Photos of the room at the show? Apparently it was a real humdinger. Not the kind of room one would want to have a bad trip in, I heard.

Hello NFS,

The whole concept of competitive bidding auctions on ebay has driven the prices of mundane crap thru the roof, in many instances. People pay crazy prices on ebay for stuff they could get cheaper elsewhere. And what passes for "mint" on the bay often belongs in a dumpster.

So it's no surprise the "good" stuff is elevated to grail status.

I just picked up a mint copy "Ain't she Sweet - The Beatles" with Tony Shedian plus some Beatles tunes by the Swallows on the ATCO label about 10 minutes ago at a local thrift for 99 centavos. Coincidenza?

I got a Japanese Pro-use Series LP with the Beatles (Abbey Road), that I've had for many years. It was made from the original master tapes. The EQ is mild and done with a gentle hand, which is not too bad. Sounds way better than the original UK pressing.

That was such a cool shot of them crossing Abbey Rd. on the cover. Of course, Paul had aleady died by then so they had to use his body double.

Again you mock, but insiders know that Paul was killed by the CIA and replaced by a member of the Tri-Lateral Commission with middling pop sensibilities. Yoko knew, but was paid 30,000 bars of gold plated lead to keep quiet. John was silenced to "sweeten the deal," if you get my drift. It's too dangerous for me to spell it all out but if you would do a little research the pieces of the puzzle are all there.

Went to thift store again today, nothing new in stack, they never have anything. Just as I was about to leave a young lady brought out an armfull of records for the stack, which I grabbed. Guess which mint unplayed Beatle picture disc was in the armfull. Coincidenza?

It's such a shame about all that magnetic ink in the picture disc.

Oh, well. At least the vinyl is clear and nonmagnetic.

Was reading about music sales for 2009, and there was an intersting bit about The Beatles.

In the 'rock' category, the highest selling album was Kings of Leon's "Only by the Night" at 1.4 million copies. (Other music sold more, but was not categorized as 'rock.' Acts like Susan Boyle, Taylor Swift, Hanna Montana, etc...)

Sales in general were down 11.1%.

U2's "No Line on the Horizon" sold just over a million copies.

DSOM sold 226,000 copies.

The reason I put this in a Beatles thread is that The Beatles sold 3.2 million albums, not including the number of Stereo/Mono sets.

One of their albums sold 411,000 copies, making it their single biggest seller for the year.

Any guesses as to which album?

I'll post the answer later.

I cannot and probably never will understand the fascination of trying to capture and relive moments of the past. I always try to look forward to even better moments in the future, and try not to dwell too much in or get caught up in reliving the past. It's really bad for personal growth so I've never really spent any 'serious' time going there.

So, for me the lads are OK and did some relatively 'landmark' things, but why not move into the new and remember how the past was built yes, most definitely... but, uhm, try not to live there, OK?

For me, the past is important, I have some great memories, but I treat it like climbing a ladder, as the past is/was/were the essential step(s) that allow me to move to the new/next step. Nothing more.

For me excellence in art is timeless. It does not have an experation date. Should I listen to Taylor Swift instead of The Beatles because she is newer?

I agree, but in essence the past is the past and the adoration level as exemplified by people's behaviour does, IMO, go way past basic reason. There can be extreme examples of anything. For me, another Beatles pressing or another Beatles book or article is not something I'm interested in. Even the ladies sometimes get tired of chocolate, and overt exposure can bring contempt, in the same way it was (or should have been) nearly forbidden to play Stairway to Heaven for a decade.

Recording (preserving) music in any form is living in the past, so I will lean toward 'bullshit' on the "I live only for the present" kind of thing.

If it were true, one would only listen to life music - likely improvisational, at that.

In fact, some music requires some repeat listening in order to capture evrything it sets out to convey.

Life is ever changing, so are we...

As Heraclitus, the first aidiophile, said, "You can never listen to the same music twice."

Being contrarian is fine and cute - it's like the noncomformist high school kids who all look the same while saying they reject unifomity.

Irrational behavior on the part of fans is neither here nor there. I like the Beatles and I like Stariway to Heaven for that matter. It does not keep me from discovering new music. As an audiophile I am always looking for the best sounding source of the music I care for. So this upcoming reissue of the Beatles in mono is a good thing IMO. It is not going to stunt my spiritual or intelectual growth.

The Beatles have not aged very well in my opinion. That is the problem. They are a date in history when I was in the UK at the time. I rarely listen to them anymore.

By comparison I still love listening to Melanie "Beautiful People", The Eagles, The Byrds, Harry Nilsson, Bob Seger "Against The Wind", Buffalo Springfield, Creedence Clearwater, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Roy Orbison, Simon & Garfunkel, Joni Mitchell and yes The Mamas and The Papas.

It is pure, beautiful, unalduterated, ageless.
No comparison with the temporal formula music of The Beatles.

well, I wouldn't go that far.

My 'issue' as it were, is the idea of pressing the gratification memory button on so many people of a certain level of financial comfort or capacity to buy these things. Pressing that button for what must literally be at least the 50th time in an attempt to pass by their intellect and stroke their innards in away that pulls more money out of them. The word 'Whoring' comes to mind.

So I'm all for a decent and correct amount of respect for the lads, but this excessive whoring is tedious, at best.

I am delighted and honored to be with you in Copenhagen. This is not the first time I've been here; I've been here many, many times before, if it is for my movie promotions or for coming here for bodybuilding and weightlifting seminars, or just on vacation and so on. But I never thought then that one day I will get here as the governor of the great state and talk about climate change, so this is really terrific. So it's great. And this city, of course, distinguishes itself by being so clean you can actually swim in its harbor, even though I wouldn't recommend it right now because it's a little cold, of course. But how happy we would be if all the world's harbors would be as clean. As everyone knows, also in the harbor there is the "Little Mermaid," the statue based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. When I was a boy in Austria, the Andersen fairy tale that I always liked best was "The Ugly Duckling." And looking back, I think the reason that I liked it was because it was a tale of transformation and that spoke to me inside. I have always believed in the tremendous power of personal transformation.

...and:

I love giving this speech here just simply because I'm not the only one that has an accent. It's a good place to come.

Arnold "the oak"

That's much funnier IMO

We know the song from Willie, and also the one from Canned Heat. I don't know if anyone here sings that song. But the drummer in Metallica is a Dane, Lars Ulrich.

Funny, we have had a lot of good rock bands in Denmark through the times, but it seems they fall short when it comes to exporting their music. Guess there's too much competition on the other side of the pond.

One of the bands that's popular among the rock fans here, is Kashmir. Try to take a listen:

They don't have a rock anthem
They made girlie music

At the time in the UK a lot of people prefered the Rolling Stones
"Satisfaction" is a rock anthem
Each time I listen to it I get up on my feet, throw them in the air and rejuvenate

Denmark is so small, their version of Kerouac's "on the Road" is two pages.

In Denmark, someone is awarded a platinum album for selling 15,000 copies!
