Attention Screen: The Making of Live at Merkin Hall Attention Screen: The Players

Sidebar 2: Attention Screen: The Players

Attention Screen draws on four lifetimes' worth of jazz, classical, and rock vocabulary to create unique, spontaneous compositions that blend disparate acoustic and electronic textures.

Don Fiorino (guitar, lap steel, lotar, taro patch ukulele) Don's improvised guitar phrasings range from rock'n'roll and acoustic bottleneck blues and electric slide to Middle Eastern and Indian fusions and jazz. He plays a variety of instruments, including guitar, banjo, lap steel, ukulele, and Moroccan lotar. Don is also an accomplished painter; his approach to improvised music is much the same as his painting, integrating various sonic traditions into his own signature. In addition to Attention Screen, Don has been performing in New York City both above and below ground. He currently plays with Andy Haas and Dee Pop in Radio I-Ching and the Hanuman Sextet, as well as in duos with Haas. The Radio I-Ching CD, Last Kind Words, was released in 2006, and Death Don't Have No Mercy, the duo CD with Haas, in 2005, both on the Resonantmusic label.

Bob Reina (piano) is a classically trained composer, jazz pianist, and rock guitarist whose genre-crossing compositions have been performed at such diverse venues as New York's Carnegie Recital Hall and CBGB's. He has studied with Pulitzer Prize–winning composer John Harbison, as well as with Jack Stock at the Berklee College of Music. In addition to performing and recording with Attention Screen, he plays electronic keyboards and guitar in the rock group Assisted Living, and jazz piano in the John Atkinson Trio. He also is a contributing editor for Stereophile magazine. In his spare time, Bob is a Senior Vice President at Citigroup. He lives in Douglaston, New York.

Chris Jones (fretless electric bass guitar) has played professionally for 20 years, and graduated from the Berklee College of Music's Film Scoring program in August 1995. Before that he was a composition major at CW Post, and studied the American Minimalists with Steve Reich/Philip Glass ensembles member Frank Cassara. He lives in Brooklyn and is senior producer/composer at VideoHelper Production Music. His sound design has been featured in theatrical trailers for The Grudge, The Manchurian Candidate, The Devil's Rejects, House of Wax, and many more. He continually licenses music to all major networks and national commercials. He records and produces other music projects Overcast Radio and Snowflake (with Flávinho Megabyte).
