Let me see! I still have the first higher-quality CD changer I ever bought, the CAL Audio CL10. To my ears, it still offers a respectful performance especially when coupled to my EAD DSP 9000 Series III. I bit into SACD hoagie and bought Sony's SCD-777es which also plays CD as well. Much love to this unit! For DVD movies, I opted for the DVP 7700, which again, plays CDs(I occasionally use it as a transport). Now tell me, why would I need a CD player only?

I bought a new NAD for $300 to replace my old and skipping 12-year-old Nakamichi a few months ago. The cheap NAD is light years better than the old Nak. I thought I'd go good and cheap with the new player just in case SACD takes off. If not, then I'll buy a better player in a couple or three years.

CDs will be around more than long enough to justify the purchase.

I bought a Linn Karik/Numerik CD player a few years ago under the mistaken assumption that Linn, like they have done with their turntables, would keep customers current as new digital tchnology progressed. Big mistake. Big bucks. So . . . no more CD for me, (and no more Linn either). Mikey's been right all along!!!

Entry level for the new format players is way too high. Just bought a year-old, used, high-end CD player for half the original price. The new format software prices? Bordering on ridiculous. To rub it in they are telling us that surround is the way to go for audio. I'll stick with CDs, thank you.

SACD and DVD-Audio offer too much versatility to pass up.

There isn`t some choice(SACD-DVD-A), and software is too few and expensive

Thinking of a used, higher end CD transport, to play the 400 CDs I have, while I'm waiting for the format war to end with the production of a reasonably affordable, high end multi-format machine!

Neither DVD-A nor SACD have dampened my desire for a new CD only player. My DVD Video has. I think there will be more and more discs like bj

I have a couple hundred CD's and I can't see replacing them for a new format. I still don't see the benefit of VHS over Beta. Picture was better with Beta. Make better CD's and players. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Actually, a Wadia 27ix to go with my Sony XA7ES. So not a CD player per say but a related item.

Sony SCD 777es replaced double the $$$ in CD gear

Considering the amount of CD's I have (and still planning to buy), I have just invested in a Chord DAC64 to enhance my enjoyment of 16 bit PCM - which is still the global medium for music.

Sterophile itself killed the incentive back in 1999. I remeber there eas an issue descibing something like the last great CD player. You havre since then changed, but the feeling lingers.

I feel that with the dvd format and the like it will "weaken" the quality of stand alone cd players. I went a while back and replaced my onkyo with a pioneer elite changer. I think that cd players and dvd should stay seperate. I have DVD in my computer, this works just fine for me.

My 12 year old Nakamichi OMA-1A in system 2 and Pioneer laser disk/Forte 50 DAC in system 1 will keep the CD's spinning until the sacd vs dvd-a dust settles....maybe.

I may buy an SACD player this year. There is no reason to buy a new CD only player because the word is that top of the line SACD players are great at Redbook.
