Can I find a bearing somewhere?
I just brought my AR ES1 turntable out of storage and was setting it up for the first time in over ten years.
I just finished working on it after nearly 6 hours, staying up late and until over-tired. Sweated every detail; the cabinetry, belt cleaning, agonized over the cartridge alignment, cleaned and replaced the oil in the bearing.
DROPPED the ball bearing down the tube. (Had a bad feeling about it at the time.)
During first test, I heard a subtle intermittent ticking from the platter. Sure enough, I shined a light down the bearing tube and I can see the impact point and spider cracks in the sapphire crystal.
ANY IDEAS would be greatly appreciated.
I feel terrible.
