Amps for KEF LS50M, balanced, high gain, NOT class D

Hey everyone,

Perhaps I'm looking for the impossible, but... would anyone be able to recommend a separate amp (standalone, not integrated) for the new KEF LS50M? Ideally, it should be:

-comfortable going down to 4ohms, but rated for 8ohms (i.e. solid-state, probably)
-class A or class A/B; I don't really like class D
-around or above 100W
-high gain (around 30dB) because my preamp is passive
-balanced design (XLR), not bridged
-not stratospherically priced (I wouldn't want to exceed the price of the LS50s by too too much)

I recently discovered Odyssey Audio's gear and thought I was saved, but - alas - their circuitry isn't balanced; otherwise, their premise is very interesting to me: small, unpretentious, well-made, local, etc.

Yours thankfully,
Sergio

You need to look for used

There are tons of amps on the market that meet your requirements. I can't think of a single one that does everything you want for $1500. There are lots of amps with XLRs in this price range but are not fully balanced.

Your best bet is to search the used markets for the amp. Check out Audiogon and US Audiomart. The alternative is probably to inch up your budget or be willing to compromise your needs.

As per Stereophile forum rules: Full disclosure, I am the manufacturer of Verdant Loudpeakers, the importer for Art Audio and dealer/re-seller for a variety of brands. This must be disclosed in every post.

Will do, thanks

Yeah, I figured, but it was worth a shot! It's so weird that budget amps include XLR inputs while still being unbalanced

Rotel?

Is the Rotel RB-1552 MkII a fully balanced amp, you think? Where could I find out?

Try e-mailing Rotel

My hunch is it is no. They mention balanced inputs, not fully balanced. You could e-mail them. Usually, that is not something manufacturers gloss over.

In the end, the least expensive, fully balanced amp i am aware of is the Musical Fidelity M6s PRX and it is $2490 new. If you can find one use...that would be ideal for you.
