Amp power testing

I have noticed that Mr. Atkinson, in his current measurements attached to the D'Agostino amp, used one-eighth of the specified power to test the amp's stability, whereas in the past he had used one-third of the specified power. What motivated this decision to change? I cannot help but wonder if it was because many amps over the years have done poorly on the one-third power test. I would appreciate a reply by the editors, if only for the sake of consistency in measurement. Apples to oranges is not very useful for the prospective customer.

FWIW, I remember reading a review JA did on a high powered amp, and he was not able to run the normal 1/3 power test because he did not have a suitable resistor source to handle it.
