I think '69 was the coolest summer.
I was going through Army Basic and A.I.T. at Fort Polk, Louisiana before heading off to Infantry OCS at Fort Benning, GA. For a Illinois lad it seemed like it was 150 degrees, but it was only about 110 degrees, a real cool spell for July and August. But, God did spare me that awful summer of watching the Chicago Cubs collapse VS the Mets.
