The Dire Straits Money For Nothing Sweepstakes
Register to win a Dire Straits Money For Nothing Vinyl LP (Total value $37.49 ea) we are giving away.
About the prize:
On June 17, Rhino will reissue Money For Nothing, the first Dire Straits greatest hits collection (featuring songs from the band's first five albums), which was originally released in October 1988. Newly remastered by Bob Ludwig, Money For Nothing will be made available in digital and double vinyl formats in early 2023.
Fully remastered by Bob Ludwig, and cut by Bernie Grundman, the Money For Nothing double vinyl reissue includes "Telegraph Road (Live Remix)," which was previously only available on the original CD format, and a previously unreleased alternative live version of "Portobello Belle (Live)." The album is cut over four sides for the first time and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl with original artwork.
Dire Straits straddled the globe with their sophisticated rootsy guitar rock wedded to literate story-telling lyrics. Emerging from the club and pub circuit in 1977, Dire Straits was led by charismatic Geordie singer-songwriter, record producer, and composer Mark Knopfler.
Knopfler is one of the most successful musicians the UK has ever produced and is often cited as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Dire Straits' sound defined the late 70s/early 80s with monster global hits such as "Sultans Of Swing," "Romeo And Juliet," "Money For Nothing" and "Walk Of Life" (all included on this release). Dire Straits' 1985 album Brothers In Arms, a global No 1 and double Grammy® Award winner, is one of the best-selling albums of all time. After releasing their final album, On Every Street, in 1991, Knopfler set off on a new path as a solo artist.

I’ve listened to the tracks on this disc so many times. Always enjoyed. Never heard it on vinyl.
Would love to have this reissue!

Discogs is my favorite record shop :)
Nice!!
Dire Straits are classic...I'd love to add that to my collection!
I'd do plenty o' nothin' for money
It isn't the biggest brick & motor record shop and I don't get the opportunity to visit very often. However, the people who run the place are very friendly & helpful. If you vinyl heads are ever anywhere near the vicinity, stop into Purchase Street Records in New Bedford, MA, spend some time looking through the stacks and don't be shy about asking for anything specific you may be looking for. BTW, if you like seafood or just love the smell of salt air and like hanging with old salt types, you can't beat the location!
Friends family co-workers all know I am "into" music. So for Christmas or retirement or birthdays they have been buying me albums. They don't ever ask if I have a turntable. At some point, I will have enough vinyl to be thinking I have to add a turntable.
Still one of my favorite bands
This band never goes out of style. I have an unopened box set from the 90's and this would be great for my collection. :)

This album would be a nice addition to my collection. Thanks!
Fab group. I guess it will be on sale at my record shop in Witney UK.
B-Side Records in Madison, WI is my favorite go to record shop; Been shopping there since 1982! Always have the best selections with a great staff to boot! ;)
Dr. Disc in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. If they don't have it they will gladly order it for you, without you pre-paying. And, once it comes in they will give you three weeks to pick it up. Awesome in-store service. Never any disappointment.
Please let me win
... for free.
Hey!
I remembered watching that boxy CGI music video of Money for Nothing on MTV... back when MTV were still showing music video. Yeah, I'm in.
And it ships for free?

Shout out to Paradise Found in Boulder, a lovely newer record store.
Great record shop in San Jose, CA.
Yes. I would like a chance to win The Dire Straits Money For Nothing. For free!
Dire Straits was one of the most intelligent and technically proficient bands to come out of the late 70’s. Their great songs and compositions used amazing dynamics and each recording was a gem.

Always enjoy new records
Always loved Dire Straits
Please!
Album would be a blast to win! Favorite record store is Scotti's Record Shop in Summit NJ. Support them and shop there if you're in NJ rather than buying on-line! Unless you are too busy installing microwave ovens!
... an album for nothing!
Renegade Records, Portland Street, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia is a lovely shop in a great neighbourhood just a minute's walk up from Halifax Harbour. I've found some treasures there every visit.
Dire Straits is my all-time favourite band. I had just about everything they ever pressed long before I found Renegade records. I have their albums on vinyl, CD, SACD and Hi Rez download. Most of their albums I have at least three copies.
What a nice idea that you have a giveaway. Hoop a lot of people love music.
Still playing this album purchased back in 1985 and it sounds just as good the day it was brought home. Hope to win and play this record for just as long!
Princeton Record Exchange. Weathered the storms for 40 years and still going strong. Very big collection of rock and jazz (plus everything else you can think of), turns over all the time and shoppers aged from kids to geezers.
Oh, about Dire Straits--truly great musicians and writing.
I'm in!
Red Scroll Records, Wallingford, CT!
All the hits in one place!
gotta love Money for Nothing!
So give it to me!
So give it to me!
Can't wait to hear it.
I am overdue for some love.
I work in sales, and every time I utter the words: "We got to move these refrigerators, We got to move these color TVs", my co-workers look at me like "huh?" They are either old enough to know and have forgotten or they are young enough that they just don't know.
That's my favorite local record store. Bob, the owner, is a classic record store guy: a bit hippie/bohemian and a fountain of knowledge. Bart's in Boulder (RIP) was a great shop and my favorite in Seattle is Jive Time in Freemont. The common with these places is fair prices and many great finds over the years. Too many record stores are overcharging now trying to bandwagon on the millennial's latest fad. I recently found a sealed Heart Magazine for $18 at 4000 holes. That's the way it used to be and still should be everywhere. Also, you kids get off my lawn!
Looking forward to the live remixes!
My two biggest guitar heros are David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and I have had the pleasure to see their live performances. I have recently started to practice Sultans of Swing on guitar. Dire Straits Money For Nothing was among the first CDs I bought back in the 90s. All tracks are absolutely brilliant; especially Telegraph Road (Live). I have recently bought a record player but haven't yet visited any vinyl store in my area (Irvine, CA). I do regularly visit Vinyl booths at local HiFi Shows (e.g. THE SHOW). Looking very much forward to listen to the upcoming Money For Nothing remastered and cover it on my Youtube channel.

That's where my love of vinyl records started at the dawn of the CD. Records seemed destined for obsolescence, but look at what's happened with records vs CD 30+ years later.
Awesome
Absolutely great band...Knopfler is a stud!
Telegraph Road...(mic dropped!)

I have this on CD and would really love to hear it on vinyl. Just because I live off of Telegraph Road, maybe I’ll get lucky!
I’d like some new vinyl
This would be a great prize!

Still have my turntable and ready to hear one of my favorites
Brothers in Arms was the first CD I ever bought, and I was blown away by the sound. Both me and my stereo have matured a bit since then, and I'd love to hear Dire Straits on a well-mastered vinyl album. I'm ready to be blown away again!

I'll trade a copy of my latest novel, "Cuban Contraband" for a copy of the record.
Multiple entries disqualify anyone. Too bad some people don't read the rules!
I bought all of the Dire Straits albums on vinyl when they came out, but they weren't mastered (or remastered) by Bob Ludwig!
One of my favorites band of all times
One of my favorites band of all times
One of my favorite groups from the 70's and 80's.
terrific vibe in this store - if you live in the 831, this is the Best Place to buy used records
Just rebuilt my turntable and spinning records night and day. Can't wait to hear this newest addition to Dire Straits discography.
That’s for me!!!!
Brother in Arms, always a go to for me to audition HiFi equipment. Moreover, I always play it to show off my system at home. Would really enjoy this new LP release too.
Well, if they don't ruin the reissue.
My favorite record store - Radio-Active Records at Imperial Square in Ft Lauderdale. They have a huge inventory, very chill atmosphere, look all you want, you can even listen in the store before buying - with knowageable staff, they consider any you want to sell and offer you decent value to part with your collection
