Help troubleshooting a Volume issue with Turntable

Hello all,

Just setup my lovely Fluance RT85 TT with Ortofon 2M blue cart with a PA10 Fluance preamp, and some powered shelf speakers.

After a few records in, I started to notice a pop sound (almost light needle pop) and then the volume drastically drops out to low. It slowly starts to build back up to normal volume again, then after a couple seconds another pop and the volume drops back out again.

All connections are stable, and all gear including wires and banana clips are all brand new.

Anyone have any ideas what this could possibly be? let me know if you have questions that may help, i'm happy to answer.

Thanks!

1. Does it happen on both

1. Does it happen on both channels at the same time?
2. How do you connect your preamp to the unidentified speakers?
3. What are those speakers?

My line out of my preamp goes into my Fluance Ai61 powered shelf speakers.

They are just powered shelf speakers with class D amp.

Someone in another post I read seems to think it may be "compression" and something is reacting to pops on the record and sudden variability with lowering the volume. I guess this would be taking place in the amp of the speakers? There's no way to turn this off so if that is the culprit I have no way to adjust that.

It could be in the preamp or

It could be in the preamp or in the active speaker. If you have another source, preferably analog RCA connection, try playing it to the speakers to see if you can localize the problem to it. If not, the problem is probably in the preamp.

OTOH, since this is an all-Fluance system, why not let them figure it out?

Having the same issue

I'm having the same issue. How did you end up resolving this?

Fluance PA10

I'm also having random volume drop with the Fluance PA10. I hooked my ART DJ preamp and the issues have gone away. Definitely something wrong with the PA10.
