Not sure if this will help, bobbyz. But I have a vintage Technics SL1100A direct drive with a stock tonearm that I bought new in the 1970's. It was built like a tank, still works perfectly and is still in use. Just saw the 1200 has been reintoduced with a list price tag around $4k? Let us know what you choose.

Rather than saying the Luxman is absolutely better, please watch Michael Fremer (Analog Planet) test the Technics with a very top cartridge with his turntable (very audiophile quality). Rather than say too much about the results of the comparison watch the presentation on Youtube. He obviously downloaded the output in 24bit quality so you can hear the difference. If you don't have a high quality amp/speakers/dac. You simply can't hear the subtle difference. I was shocked the Technics simply doesn't match high quality audiophile turntables with an equally audiophile cartridge.

But the direct drive tables have supr3me speed accuracy,no point having cleaner ,clearer sound when a long piano note pitch wavers on a belt drive table which drives me nuts.

Four years later and I'm still waiting on the answer because I have the same question, too! Now, I'm looking more at the PD-151 versus the PD-171A, which is a closer match in price to the 1200G. The HiFiNews review of the PD-151 by Ken Kessler in 2019 was highly favorable (https://www.hifinews.com/content/luxman-pd-151-turntable).

I need a 12v power supply for this turntable. Any idea what wattage I should use?
