My stereo system is also used as the sound system for my home theater. Because I needed to keep the HDMI cable as short as possible, my preamp and amp are in an equipment closet aligned with the projector. Consequently, the right speaker needed about 24 feet of speaker wire and the left speaker needed about 40 feet. I priced out the Kimber 4TC and 8TC but it was too much money. Instead I bi-wired the speakers using the Monoprice 12 gauge. My system has never sounded better. I can understand why there might be a noticeable difference between analog cables and buying expensive cables might be worth the extra money. However I'm very skeptical of designer digital cables which transmit 0's and 1's. According to Wikipedia, signal voltages of −10 to 10 mV for low and 360 to 440 mV for high are used for high speed USB. Notice there's a range, so even if your cable is shoddy, as long as the signal is in the correct range, it's recognized correctly. Therefore, buying a designer digital cable might be a waste of money. I'm certainly no electrical engineer, so I'd love to hear someone like John Atkinson's opinion.
