Monoprice 12 gauge Speaker Wire Has Been Very Good

Tried Monoprice 12 gauge speaker wire based on review in Wirecutter Magazine. It surprised me by being very noticeably better then the Monster 16 gauge wire I had been using. Don't want to get into the wire matters/doesn't matter "all you need is rope" debate. All I can say is in MY experience trying different speaker wire on the same equipment, noticeable differences could be heard. Brought more detail and extension on my Athena AS-F2 speakers. Monoprice 12 gauge can be found on Amazon pretty easily.

Also Happy with Monoprice12 Gauge Speaker Cable

My stereo system is also used as the sound system for my home theater. Because I needed to keep the HDMI cable as short as possible, my preamp and amp are in an equipment closet aligned with the projector. Consequently, the right speaker needed about 24 feet of speaker wire and the left speaker needed about 40 feet. I priced out the Kimber 4TC and 8TC but it was too much money. Instead I bi-wired the speakers using the Monoprice 12 gauge. My system has never sounded better. I can understand why there might be a noticeable difference between analog cables and buying expensive cables might be worth the extra money. However I'm very skeptical of designer digital cables which transmit 0's and 1's. According to Wikipedia, signal voltages of −10 to 10 mV for low and 360 to 440 mV for high are used for high speed USB. Notice there's a range, so even if your cable is shoddy, as long as the signal is in the correct range, it's recognized correctly. Therefore, buying a designer digital cable might be a waste of money. I'm certainly no electrical engineer, so I'd love to hear someone like John Atkinson's opinion.

Speaker Wire Conjecture

My impressions are that the difference in sound quality between average and very good speaker wire is huge but the difference between very good and even better isn't quite so much. Diminishing returns. Kind of reminds of what a leap it was to go from vcr to dvd. Huge. And while bluray and UHD are noticeable and worthwhile it doesn't quite seem as huge as vcr to dvd. In the future I may consider upgrading to some Kimber or Audioquest Type 8's but Wired Magazine was right about Monoprice 12 gauge being quite a sleeper. Will give it awhile and see how it goes with a future speaker upgrade.
