If you are interested in the best sound possible, IMO the Musical Fidelity M6si sounds better than either of the amps you mentioned, and has enough power for 99% of the speakers in existence. It also incorporates a superb phono stage.

For the finest CD/SACD playback I have ever experienced, the Marantz SA-10 Reference player is what you want. It is the first player I have ever had in my system that is truly "perfect sound"; the sound is simply flawless.

I own both the PM-KI and PM-10 and from reviews that have heard them and the MF Id say your assumptions are incorrect. Have you heard them in your home? The PM-10 is an incredible performer and an Audiophile bargain at $9000 or less on discount.
I choose the Marantz over McIntosh and Luxman and other brands in its price point to drive a larger pair of KEF Reference towers. Nothing has been able to drive these speakers as well.
