Give the guys at Music Direct a call. They sell the McIntosh gear, MoFi and Rega and will probably have the best perspective you can get. Since they have a 60 day return policy, there is little incentive for them to push a product you won’t like.

Good to hear from you Bierfeldt! Have been recently buying lots of stuff from Music Direct in preparation for the homecoming of my new TT. Great folks! Great products! Great service & fast delivery! Basically, the TT guy I spoke with over there says either the Mofi or Rega deck would be great in my system but thinks the Mofi offers a bit more value by virtue of being built in the USA. This concurs with some of my additional research. The Mofi is substantially heavier and I think will be less susceptible to acoustic vibration, especially with those 4 HRS feet. So, unless Mikey or somebody else checks in with more ideas for serious consideration, methinks I will take the Mofi plunge.

Have you made any progress related to your TT wanderings?

First off, congratulations on your selection! Please let us know what you think of the MoFi once you have it in your system. Also, glad your experience with the guys at Music Direct was great.

I did opt to pick up a “new” turntable. I bought a used Linn Sondek LP12 with a lightly used Lyra Kleos cartridge. I picked the whole rig up for about what I would have paid for just the cartridge. The table itself was a bit older but in spectacular condition.

It delivers a lot more detail than the Rega with a deeper soundstage. I love the Duke Ellington John Coltrane record and In A Sentimental Mood is one of my favorite songs but that recording has always left we wanting a little in terms of soundstage. It has never sounded better and great recording are at a completely different level. I am very happy.

You must be in audiophile La La Land! I've got a 1976 Duke Ellington (with Stephane Grapelli, Ray Nance & Svend Asmussen) recording I love. Put on "Take the A Train" & "Don't get Around Much Anymore" for me! Follow that up with some Count Basie and Glen Miller. That will be awesome on your system!

Gotta' save up a little more disposable fun money before I pull the trigger on the Mofi. Figure I'm about a month or two away from actually cueing it up with a nice glass of wine. In the meantime, I'll be cleaning some albums with my new cavitation machine in preparation for what I expect will be another "WOW MOMENT" from my social control agent. My evil plan = get the social control agent to imagine just how much better the sound would be with new speakers.

I am familiar with that process. I have found some success recently with the turntable but my upgrade process is definitely at an end for a stretch. Situation will be different in spring of next year come bonus time.

Hello, all you stereophiles out there! Just reporting in to say I finally took the plunge and sprung for the MoFi Ultradeck with Master Tracker MM. I won't reproduce my initial (i.e. pre-break-in) review here. If you are interested in that, please visit the Music Direct website to see what my initial take is on this deck and please, please share whatever guidance you folks might have regarding the hum issue I mentioned in my review. I would love to find a solution to this! I'll report in again after I've logged about 50 to 75 hours of listening time on this deck.
