Good Day Peter,
this is an interesting combo (Primare and Hegel. Both are on my list- did you audition the Primare CD32 and amp I32? Equally, the new Hegel Mochican cd player w/ the H160?
Yes, either of these cd players will sound much better than Tidal. I look forward in reading more about your Audio system.
I had the H160 and was looking for a CD-player when I found the CD32 at a bargain price (SEK 15.000 was 24.000) as a demo in a shop. Thanks for confirming my opinion about the better sound :-) BTW; speakers are Dynaudio Excite X38, they have a very powerful and warm sound in my opinion. I listen a lot to Pink Floyd, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Creedence, Bob Marley, Dylan, Dire Straits and so on.
Thank you for your comment :-)
My pleasure- yes, I cannot blame you for a sweet deal. I always buy used/demo as well.
Primare is a sonic match for Dynaudio speakers. Keep me posted if you get an opportunity to listen to the Hegel Mochican cd player ($5000) USD.
Which brands of cabling are you using?
2nd Note;
the new Primare CD32 was a newer design compared to the older players even the CD31.
This particular player features the new Sanyo disc drive/laser assembly. I have been wanting to hear it as well.
The phono cables are Audio Technica LC-OFC and from 1988...
Speaker cables, don´t know the brand, but they were cheap. Blew my cable budget away when I bought the CD 32 ;-)
That Primare CD32 is supposed to have a pretty great DAC in it. My guess is that would be the better sounding of the two units but in the end, "better" is subjective. You should listen to both and decide which one you like better. I find these exercises entertaining because I am always amazed at how much of a difference I really hear.
For analog cables, I like Audioquest Golden Gate. For digital, I have a couple monoprice that are surprisingly good. For value, few top monoprice.
Thank you for your comment on DAC´s :-)
