The 6 is going to have significantly more bass extension than the 5; they would be a better choice unless you already have a very high quality subwoofer to use with the 5s.
The Silver Series uses higher quality components and construction throughout, and are worth the higher price for critical listeners; especially where classical music is concerned. They are a bit more refined and accurate.
Most people will be quite happy with the Bronze series.
Your receiver should have adequate power, since the sensitivity of those speakers is very high.
Thanks for the reply, I agree absolutely with your advice,5's with a sub, 6's with no sub. Get the 6's, then just have to evaluate if the price difference between the silvers and the bronze warrant the extra $700.
The Monitor Audio Bronze 6's have arrived and after unboxing them, Commsysman, I see exactly what you were referring to regarding build quality, compared to the Silver 6's.
However, right out of the box, the sound quality of the Bronzes, blew me away!! warm, relaxed, with amazing soundstage, clarity and the bass is truly visceral!! no need for a subwoofer with these, your advice was right on the money!!!
Now I will be comparing them with the Silver 6's that I have set up before making a final decision to as if the price difference of $600 a pair is worth it
Ended up keeping the Bronze 6's, incredibly happy with the sound! I would heartily recommend them to anyone who is looking for a warmer sound. With the Bronze 6's the music is just there, and I am never reminded that there is a speaker present. Thanks Commsysman for the great advice.
