Hopefully your going to agree on some type of treatments whether they be traditional or lifestyle. We do a fair amount of lifestyle setups where the treatments blend in with the decor. We don't advertise all of them because they are custom, but when finished you hardly know they are there. And we do our stock RoomTune products.
There's three tricks to what your asking. One is to control all the corners, midseams and mid corners. If you use barricade type products you will get more burn than direct absorption products and you'll be able to go with less in the way of size. For example I'll do a link to some of my clients. Some of the high end style rooms you'll look at and won't notice any product at all. Second, you'll probably want to look into floorstanding acoustical treatments. Again you can look at ours or our competitors. I won't bore you with the sales pitch comparison (not my style). You can come to my forum and ask whatever you would like, including me doing a free draft of what I think. Third and this is important for rooms with odd shapes maybe even more than squared rooms. Treating the rooms center pressure zone correctly can make or break the balance of the room. A lot of people who have odd rooms that sound funkie give up before they correct the pressure in the room. Most don't know where to start doing this, but it's not as hard as listeners think, it just means you need to work with someone who has done this alot and knows how to work with room materials and construction of rooms. Without getting too deep into this, if you have an odd shaped room on a slab with plaster walls it's going to respond completely different than that exact same room lets say with wood and subfloor & drywall.

Next thing I would do if I were you is give a little more of a detailed view of your space and system and let the members here give you their thoughts. Some might suggest subs, some electronic room correction, or in my case I go the physical RoomTuning route.

Thx for the input...i'm leaning towards the floor/ceiling reflections being my main culprit?...i may try to post a pic in the near future. it's a hardwood floor on a slab - and the ceiling reminds me of an upside down bowl over the listening area. as you pointed out - i have very little experience and not sure how to approach it (easily). because i already have panels built i thought i might try covering the frp's on the ceiling and maybe treat the 1/4 wall hanging down in the rear of the room - and wall/ceiling corners. the reason i'm asking advice is i have another room that is more traditional in it's dimensions- but if you veterans think it's feasible to treat this big room i mentioned i'd like to set up there.
