"Elvis Presley died on August 16, 1977 in the bathroom of his Graceland mansion in Memphis, Tennessee. He was 42 at the time of death. He had been on the toilet, but fallen off onto the floor, where he lay in a pool of his own vomit."

Careful of the toilet now, Geoff...

My only fear of toilets is that you would be waiting for me in there.

Now, speaking of bathrooms, how about that nice cold shower you've been putting off?

So Geoff,

What have you done for the hobby this last week while you were so quiet?

Michael was busy voicing his new line of Tuneable speakers and making great progress.

I was learning how to remove additional blockage from my system by stripping the outer jackets off my stock AC cables and heat treating some new 22 gauge solid core speaker cabling and moving the speakers further out and closer to side walls.. with very nice initial improvements ... will be awhile till they burn in and system settles around new fields. Normally I would never consider spreading the speakers are far apart as they are, but the typical center thinning out does not occur. I will move onto adjusting the acoustic pressure zones in the room once the burn in is complete since its a balancing act.

I bet Dan, bill and Costin were quietly doing their thing.

What were you up to ... Anything to tell us other than the typical pictures, quotes and nasty grams.

Glad to hear everyone is busy and keeping off the street. Of course, it's an interesting subject, that is what actions are required and how much time is spent trying to reach audio nirvana. As an old philosopher once said if it was easy everyone could do it. It's not related to age, or years of experience, how busy you are, or any of those things, really. It's not action, but correct action. How can you be in two places at once and really be nowhere at all?

Ok, let's review the common logical fallacies folks use.

Appeal to authority (argumentum ab auctoritate) – where an assertion is deemed true because of the position or authority of the person asserting it.[59][60]

Appeal to accomplishment – where an assertion is deemed true or false based on the accomplishments of the proposer.[61]

Appeal to consequences (argumentum ad consequentiam) – the conclusion is supported by a premise that asserts positive or negative consequences from some course of action in an attempt to distract from the initial discussion.[62]

Appeal to emotion – where an argument is made due to the manipulation of emotions, rather than the use of valid reasoning. [63]

Appeal to fear – a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made by increasing fear and prejudice towards the opposing side[64][65]

Appeal to flattery – a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made due to the use of flattery to gather support.[66]

Appeal to pity (argumentum ad misericordiam) – an argument attempts to induce pity to sway opponents.[67]

Appeal to ridicule – an argument is made by presenting the opponent's argument in a way that makes it appear ridiculous.[68][69]

Appeal to spite – a specific type of appeal to emotion where an argument is made through exploiting people's bitterness or spite towards an opposing party.[70]

Wishful thinking – a specific type of appeal to emotion where a decision is made according to what might be pleasing to imagine, rather than according to evidence or reason.[71]

Cheers,

The great gentleman thinker of our time with a dose of eloquent innuendo from wiki.

Have pity on us commoners who waste our time feverishly working on our very common sense thinking of reducing mass and blockage from the signal path.

So what is your definition of correct action?

Is it wearing your foil watch or re-filling the frog in water or taking some photos to put in the freezer (sorry had to go there.)

I think I'll put my thinking into action and stick to the true spirit of 'straight wire with gain' which unfortunately the industry has morphed into 'massive and miles of wire.'

In all seriousness, what have you been up to in this 'doing' hobby other than flexing your keyboard skills.

It pains me to bump this thread. I would rather it drift away, but how can it when the stalkers are back disrupting positive and productive threads? I again appeal to the readers and mods of Stereophile to keep it classy.

There's no need for thread disruptions, flames and people stalking. There's plenty of space for everyone to share their ideas and yes agree or disagree, but I think we should be considerate of the readers and those wishing to build and not tear down.

I'm a little disgusted, maybe even embarrassed with this forum and part of the industry right now. When I first started to get involved in this part of the music biz I had a few people tell me it wasn't what I thought it was. I was told that it was a club that happened to get lucky enough to suck enough people in to support it. Because of this I was careful not to mingle my pro life in too deeply with my audiophile or even my personal life.

What was so odd to me was, I grew up in the middle of music and it seemed natural that the artist end and the studio end and the playback end was one. Back in the seventies it actually was. Artist, concerts, recordings, radio and listeners all had a connection. There was a balance and respect between all involved. Not that there weren't spats, but the love of music itself drove both the creative and social ends. If we weren't making music we were playing it.

I have to tell you guys something from the heart. What is allowed to happen on this forum and other audiophile forums is bullshit, and does nothing but hurt music. You might think it's cute in some way to feed into these flamers and those who are here to distract from the audio sharing, but your doing nothing but separating yourselves from music and the music world. If you can not govern with respect your giving no incentive for those of us who wish to share our life's work with you.

You people who are doing the distracting, shame on you, I mean it, shame on you for giving this forum and industry a bad name.

Can't you hobbyist see that people are looking at you as a joke? You have cut yourselves off from the world you use to belong to and your numbers are decreasing every day, cause people who really care about music don't want to come up and read audio spins and people using a Sony Walkman as a reference telling people that they need to throw away their stuff and pickup a hobby without a soundstage. High end audio, at least the high end audio I thought I knew, was way better than guys hunting for excuses why they can't play the music.

Maybe it's too late. Maybe you guys have flamed and snobbed yourselves out of existence. Maybe you have become so used by people telling you they had answers when they sold you nothing more than a pretty faceplate or spins, that you no longer search for what the audio signal is or how to make it do what you want. Maybe this hobby to you has gone from tell me more, to everyone is full of crap. If it has, I'm out, and I bet it's why there are no music people here.

Well tonight John I'm sorry to say, but I'm ashamed of my threads here when I look at them. They start out in a direction and people come up saying thanks, and as soon as Geoff or May sees them, instead of starting any kind of constructive discussion or even starting their own threads they go into distract mode, off topic and eventually something barely above pond scum. You can say to me, well move on if you don't like it and to be honest eventually I will if it doesn't class up. But might I suggest something first?

Why don't we work together to class things up before I leave. Why don't all of us respect each other enough to use respect as our means to communicate? If you are a poster who does spins that's find, but move to your own place to do them. Don't jump on others threads as a means to flame. If someone doesn't do what I do or agree with it fine, no harm done, but don't follow me around like some low life stalker to only find out that you don't even have a stereo system or that you don't even believe in a soundstage. If you disgree don't keep hovering like your doing a service.

John if your reviews were done like this you would be out of business in a couple of months. Don't you think it is worth it to see this industry unit? And don't you think it's worth it for threads to be informative instead of designers like myself having to spend our time dealing with flames?

Maybe those people were right. Maybe the High End really has nothing to do with music at all. Maybe it's just another marketing tool to feed the club it started. I really hope this whole thing was not one big joke.

I'm sorry but I love music too much, to not stick up for it and the people who are truly music lovers. This industry could be so different if there were leaders who stuck up for what the industry really is, and live to make it better. I can't imagine the members wouldn't like to see more people who make the music here to share, instead of being constantly battling threads that get twisted for no reason at all.

You know John I and others do this because music has been our life and we love it. We have no desire to come to a war zone, it's not our thing. We're interested in sharing the love not being part of discord. Maybe this doesn't matter to you, but I bet it does to the John who started in music long ago.

don't want to leave but I also don't need meaningless flames

This flaming thing is under my skin and I've been thinking about it trying to see how to be a part of Stereophile and true to myself and readers.

I shouldn't be here asking Stereophile to change. They run things the way that makes sense to them. At the same time it's beneath me to mingle with poor internet, or any type of trash talk, etiquette. What I will do in the future when my threads are invaded by the undergrowth is simply move them to TuneLand where the same thread can be read without the pain of seeing good discussions turn into something that doesn't serve anyone.

Thank you for letting me work through this in a way that keeps both of us happy.

I'll now return you to your regularly scheduled channel.

This forum is dead. The last "Issue" forum started was April 2014. Mr. Atkinson frequently answers questions and responds to criticism at Audio Asylum, but not here. It's a shame.

I don't really get into the "tuning" thing the way he does. Although I think we all do it to some degree. That said it's no critique of him. He's really trying. His post are actually long articles, and that's fine. You don't have to read all the way through.

I really think it's time to remove people who really have little to add but negative vibes. Because they bring absolutely no enjoyment (I don't know it that's a word, but it can be for now) of or to the hobby. And that's what this is. It's a hobby for most of us, and a profession for some, and something in between for still more.

I'm like Michaeal, I'm just a little tired of it.

I decided to stop posting individual issue forums because their traffic had dropped precipitously. The many comments that would have been posted in those forums now appear in the comments section to reviews and articles.
