Sony has a long, long history of marketing a panoply of flawed, short-lived products and betting on the wrong format. Occasionally, they find a bright spot. Perhaps they have an opportunity now to redeem themselves. I wish them well.
Too bad Sony's next level below these five-figure speakers is mass market junk. Sony will never succeed in a big way in the High End, but they can do ok in, say, the home theatre room at Best Buy if only they decide to. ES needs more panache to distinguish it from all of the identical home theatre mid-fi out there, and these hi-rez digital players are a step in the right direction.
