Stereophile 2013 Recommended Components iPad App Now Available for Free Download

Stereophile is pleased to announce the availability of the free 2013 Recommended Components iPad app.

This is not an update of our previous app but a completely new app. Products listed in Recommended Components change from year to year, so we are creating a new app annually so readers can collect both new and past rankings.

New This Year
Based on reader feedback to the 2012 app, we've added two new features for 2013: Over 700 product photos are now included and the app is also viewable in both landscape and portrait (horizontal or vertical) orientations on the iPad.

Available Now
The app is available right now for free download to your iPad in the iTunes store. In iTunes, search for "Stereophile Recommended Components" or follow this link to the iTunes store from your web browser.

This app includes all current Recomended Components as listed in the recent issue of Stereophile as well as additional ratings and listings that could not fit in the print version. There are over 700 component rankings in all and the app is compatible with all iPad hardware versions.

Search and Full Reviews
Each component is ranked and most include links directly to the full review on Stereophile.com. The app also allows you to sort by component category and features quick search.

Tagged Items
An additional app feature is the ability to "tag" any item in the listing to create your own curated list of items for future reference. You can add and delete items from this list as needed. Just tap the "checkmark" graphic next to each entry to add it to your list.

Due to the immense amount of text in the Recommended Components, we don't have an iPhone version at this time. However, we will continue to update the Stereophile Recommended Components iPad app with new features and ratings additions and welcome your comments.

I am a subscriber to your paper magazine, and also a frequent reader of the magazine on-line. Now I see that you developed an app to see the Recommended Components in i-Pad.  I am not an i-Pad user. Will you not publish this to see on-line, in the same way as you did last year?.

Thank you and congratulations for a great magazine and excellent recommendations. I bought most of my equipment based on your reviews.

Thanks for reading!

We do plan on publishing an online version of our most recent "Recommended Components" list. Look for it around the end of this month.

I thank you very much for this app!  It's great to just pull out your iDevice (if you have one - I'm maiinly an Android guy - but I do have an iPad) and read the Recommended Components.  What I'm upset about is a preceived Mac bias (app made for iDevices only - but that's your perogative, and in your Recommended Components - the majority of your apps are iOS only)!!!

For one thing - do you plan on reviewing J River at all?  Soo many others have beaten you to the punch! I see that the e18 from exasounds is a class K component - maybe when you get this - you can do J River as well (it's one of the only pieces of software that can exploit everything that DAC can do).

If there is a Mac bias - and you say so, I'll shut up and just enjoy what I read that pertains to me, but if there isn't ...time to play catch up and see what software on both sides of the tracks can do (they even let you use the full version for free for 30 days!!!! I think that's enough time to get a decent look at it.  I'm just sayin' ;)

I switched from paper to digital stereophile magazine few years ago, I have only archived the recommended components issues in paper. This new app is great, I am going completely paperless now. Thanks!

I noticed this device is missing from the iPad version of recommended components under digital processors.

Not sure if it's a glitch in the application or the data it pulls.

>> Actually I realize Stereophile is announcing a new version for 2013.  It was the 2012 version that left off the Grace m903.  It is included in this release.

The Grace m903 is listed both as a digital processor and as a headphone amplifier in the 2013 iPad "Recommended Components.".

Hi Stephen, will the Recommended Components still be listed in the Stereophile hard back magazine issues? For those who purchase the monthly mag?

Thanks George

I-device: useless to me.  Android:  larger market share than Apple.
