You don't want to inhibit airflow any more than you have to, but if I were in your situation I might get a roll of fiberglass window/door screen material from the hardware store, and fix a single-layer over the vents. I would not use any finer filter than this, for fear of blocking too much airflow. Plus I would only do this to an amp that ran on the cool side. I would not place anything near the vents of an amp that is driven hard, or one that ran hotter than slightly warm.
BTW- I recently picked up a cheap non-contact IR thermometer that quickly showed the top of my amp can be typically 104 degrees F. Now if I placed a dog hair-screen on the amp, and the thermometer shows more than a one or two degree rise in temperature, then it's coming right off, and my dog will have to find a new home.
Just kidding, the dog will stay.
I would just get a dustcover for the amp and remove it while playing.

In my case the cover would be in place about 6 hrs a night while I slept haha
Just run a vacuum attachment over the vents when u clean
I suggest that you get a filter element for a car air conditioner.
Specifically, the filter element which is used as the "cabin air filter" for a 2000 Lincoln LS should be the right size to cover the top vents (around 9 x 11 or so).
You can just lay it on the top of the unit and vacuum it off occasionally.
The FRAM filter number is CF 9465 and it is available from Wal-Mart or ROCKAUTO online.
There are many different ones to fit various makes; you can go to Wal-Mart or an auto parts store and look for the size you want.
Thanks for the filter numbers. I live in a very small space and do not want anything that has to be removed and put somewhere. Besides I like easy access.
Thanks to all.
