My general impression is that the 105 is at least the equal of the 95. I haven't heard them tho. I have the 103 and the analog out audio is better than I expected
your response to my query, with all due respect, isn't very enlightening.
the Oppo BDP-95 to the Oppo BDP-105. For the most part the 105 and 95 have the same DACs, complementary circuitry and output stages. The 105 has changes (stiffer chassis, no fan) that should improve the sound, not degrade it. There is no dilemma as far as I'm concerned. The Oppo BDP-105 sounds great (I think a little better than the 95) and has the streaming features you want.
the configuration of the DAC's channels has been altered to accomodate the new headphone amp. the sabre32 is an 8 channel DAC, and some of those channels are now allocated to the headphone amp as opposed to using all of them for the 2 channel output. i wonder what effect if any this has on sound quality. by the way, i don't believe oppo would build the next generation universal player as sounding worse than the 95.
The tech guys at OPPO say that the analog circuits and DAC are unchanged and identical circuits in both units and there is no difference in sound quality; not possible.
One of the SABRE 32 DAC chips is used for decoding the 7.1-channel outputs; the other is used for the stereo outputs. This only requires four channels of the 8 available on the second DAC chip, leaving four channels of the second DAC unused in the BDP-95. In the BDP-105, two of those unused four are utilized for the headphone output. This will make no difference to any of the other circuits.
i understand what you are saying about the channels, which makes me relieved. what is unclear about your post is: is the sound quality different on the 105 vs. the 95 then? (for the 2 channel output)
Then you are entitled to a refund of what you paid for it.
