i had a rega rp1 that i bought brand new and it seemed like the bass was lacking a bit. so then i went out and traded it for a brand new "music hall MMF 2.2" turntable. THIS is the sound i was looking for. i would personally stay away from rega, but if you're happy with it then you're happy with it. folks on here also recommend the "pro-ject" turntables.

I compared the new RP3 with my older P3-24, in my review of the VPI Traveler. I love my turntable, but I haven't stopped wanting a new RP3. Michael Fremer also compared the two 'tables in his "Analog Corner" column in Vol.34 No.12 (December 2011).

I also recommend the Music Hall MMF-2.2 turntable, which amazingly sells for under $500. It is a gem, and hard to beat for under $1000.

The cartridge that comes with it is only so-so, but for $200-300 you can get a much better cartridge and really have some great sound quality.
