How large is the room? How is it furnished. What kind of music do you play and how loud? Can you post a diagram of your room?
Is the Maggy 1.7 a better speaker than the Image T6? Yes.
Will they solve your issues. No.
Your amp and speakers are excellent examples in their price points. If they're functioning correctly, the only way that they would sound as you describe is because you're trying to fill too large a room to realistically high output levels, as the other replys are correctly hinting at.
The 1.7's are radically harder to drive, and they don't excel at going loud regardless of what you're powering them with anyway.
IMO you may be best served by something with a built-in powered sub, like the Def Tech 8060. They may not have the mid-range resolution of the T6's, but the highs will not be overly bright, they throw a huge (if not particualry preciss) sound stage, and will fill a large room to whatever level you wish with your current amp.

I have a rectagular room, about 40x13. I repositionned the lousdpeakers so that they now are facing the closest wall, about 4' apart. The image is much better for sure.
But, I'm starting to get the amp replaced - Possibly it's not working properly... It doesn't sound the same way depending on the source (CD is way louder than other sources) which is strange to me. I just contacted the vendor. In the meantime, I'm considering the Prima-Luna tube Prologue Premium Integrated Amplifier - Quite a different price tag, but it might balance out well the PSB...
I have received the RMA for the PSB T6, but I'm still unsure about replacing them. I appreciate your mentioning of DefTech.
The room is a rectangle of about 40x12 or so. I listen to truly all types of music, but here the issue is that at some loud levels, there is a clear distortion, especially with the trebles that don't seem to handle the power. Of course I might be pushing too hard, but nonetheless, it should not be that limited.
I have 2 couches facing each other at each end of the room. I put the louspeakers perpendicular to them, about 5' apart. I set up a couple armchairs in front, or about 8' away. Now the image is good, but it has not solved the distortion issue. I'm thinking it's an issue with the amp, actually. I have old Kenwood LS from an old AV system, and they did not distort the sound at all at same volume. Perhaps it has to do with ohms?
To me that would indicate some type of defect with the amp. 76 watts should play pretty loud. You said you notice a volume difference using different sources, that could be considered normal based on setup. What is your source, cd player, turntable?
Question when you start to hear clipping, where is your volume knob pointed? i.e. 12:00
That's what I thought, and just got a replacement (same one), and... same problem. Thus I am pushed to think that the speakers are the ones at fault (a pain to pack them back!)
Source is a Marantz CD6004, brand new, I can't see a problem coming from it.
Distortion starts at about 12:05, clipping occurs at 12:10 or so. Possibly the power line I'm using cannot handle the pull?
Cabling to the speakers is brand new - Monster Cable XPMS-50, so it should be okay.
Do you have a multimeter ? I would test the resistance on the speakers and cabling
