Aragon 4004 with Onkyo SR-TX875

I recently purchased an Onkyo 875 for my Home Theater system. I currently have a pair of Mirage M1 towers being driven by an Aragon 4004 amp for audio listening. I would like to incorporate the Mirages as the front speakers in my surround sound system but I don't see a way to connect an external amplifier (the Aragon) to the Onkyo. The Onkyo has a "Pre-amp Out" but it is all (7.1) or nothing. I want the Onkyo to drive all of the other speakers directly but I'm afraid the 140W out of the Onkyo won't be enough to drive the Mirages so that's where the Aragon comes in. Unfortunately I need a line level signal into the Aragon and I can't find where to get one out of the Onkyo. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks in advance. Bill

Check your Onkyo again. It has pre outs for each independent 7.1 channel, front left, front right, center, ect. So it's out of that into the Aragon. Recalibrate your channel levels and you should be good to go.

It does look like there is preouts for the front left/right according to the manual, which I downloaded from the Onknyo website at:

Page 41 briefly discussed connecting external amplifiers and does NOT mention anything about it being all-or-noting so you should be able to connect just the front left right preout to the inputs on the Aragon and leave the receiver to power the other speakers. On some receivers you have to turn on the preamp outs in the on screen menu system, but it doesn't look like you have to do that on this one. The manual also covers both bi-amping the speakers (page 23) and bridging the front and surround back to provide twice as much power to the front speakers (page 24.)

Using the pre-out works fine. I had read p41 in the manual but when it said "use the AV receiver solely as a preamp ..." and "connect all speakers ..." I thought it might be all or nothing. I should have just tried it but I just received the Onkyo yesterday and didn't want to blow anything. Thanks guys!

Give it a try, you'll be fine. If not, that what warranties are for . Just kidding, for it NOT to work the way that I've described would be a major, major oversight on the part of the engineers at Onkyo. They aren't known for those. I've hooked receivers from 10 to 12 manufacturers that way and they all work properly. They probably don't talk the specific application in the manual because they don't see a lot of people doing it (the audiophile fringe is nearly completely invisible to the big manufacturers) and they don't want to muddy the waters and confuse regular people needlessly.

2005 Aragon amp- need to upgrade receiver

I have the 2005 Aragon amplifiers 2000 and 3000 THX Ultra 2. I also have the Aragon receiver but am upgrading my theater room and need to upgrade the receiver to have HDMI ports and other updated features. I have looked at the Onkyo receivers TX--NR1010 seems to be the best as it mentions THX Ultra 2 plus. Would this allow me to run through my amps? Could I do this with the cheaper THX Ultra select like the TX-NR818 or 717? I have a 7.2 system. Thanks for any input.
