need a lot of power. But, there are a lot of proponents of more power is better as it is argued that transient peaks are accomodated better. What is your price range? What are your sources? CD player, turntable, computer or music server? Will you eventually get a subwoofer?

I always suggest Emotiva as a good value. An Emotiva USP-1 preamp and UPA-200 or XPA-200 power amp would only set you back $718 and $768 delivered, respectively. Sale ends January 15th. Try them in your own room with your own equipment and if you don't like them return them within 30 days for a purchase price refund.

Good Luck!

and not home audio. You would need connectivity adapters and signal converters for most pro audio amplifiers to work well with a USP-1. Emotiva amps would work better, sound better and be less cost. I'd look into an iPod dock and a DAC to feed the USP-1. I suppose your music is mp3s? If so getting good equipment for the "best sound" might be disappointing as all it will do is reveal how bad mp3s are.

I use a couple of "pro amps" to drive my sub woofers. They work just fine with the rest of my gear which includes a mix of pro and home gear. The main difference between pro and home gear is that pro gear uses balanced connections on either XLR or 1/4" TSR connectors. Some pro gear also has RCA connectors. A large number of pro amplifiers are fan cooled. This can be obtrusive in a home environment because of the noise the fans may make. I changed the fans in the two (Crown) pro amps I use for quieter models. The original fans were inaudible at my normal listening distance from them (10'). However, I could hear them when I got within 5' so I swapped them out.

RCA to XLR adaptors are relatively cheap and available almost everywhere. They allow the use of standard RCA interconnects with gear that has XLR connectors.

I have no experience with CV amps.

Although CV speakers are efficient and generally don't need a lot of power to play loudly, for the best bass I would choose a high current amplifier. Look for an amplifier that doubles it's 8 Ohm power into a 4 ohm load (usually expensive) or comes close.  Any amplifier that has a 2 Ohm rating is generally considered a high current design.

hey, yeah i will be playing mp3s. and what do you mean by dac? also usp-1 has 2 channel coz i might be getting a cv-ve 5c 2 way center channel speaker so i would be needing 3 channel pre amp.

I'd get a subwoofer instead.

A DAC is a digital to analog converter which is necessary to convert a digital signal from the iPod. The iPod has a DAC built in, but it is not hifi. Using the digital ouput of the iPod through a dock will allow one to use a better DAC to feed the music system. But if you are going to use mp3s your system won't be hifi anyways.

Good luck finding a 3 channel preamp, I doubt one exists. Either you are going to put together a two channel (or 2.1)  music system or a home theater multi-channel system. Which is it?

iPod dock with a DAC: HRT iStreamer for iPad, iPhone and iPod, Teac DS H01, and Pro-Ject Dock Box Digital S. These would be all you need as they combine the dock and DAC.

Or you would need both a dock and DAC from the following:

iPod docks: Cambridge Audio id100, Wadia 170i, Onkyo ND-S1, and Pure i20.

DACs: Audioengine D1, Pro-Ject DAC Box S FL, Music Hall DAC 15.2, and HeadRoom Micro DAC. Edit per JoeE SP9 below: Maverick Audio Tube Magic D1 DAC.

Maverick Audio has a couple of entry level DAC's that may be suitable for your purposes.

Hello Guys, I am from China and I look to buy system that best suit for Heavy metal listening - Slayer,Coroner,Carcass,Suffocation and Judas priest...Mostly 80,90 Metal music.

I almost made up my mind to buy Cerwin Vega xls-28 but I am not sure the highly rated Marantz CD6005 and PM 6005 could be a good match for cerwin vega xls-28 .

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
